I heard an interesting rumor. As many of you know, Nick Kyrgios has experienced significant hair loss over the last couple of years, and he is now nearly completely bald. He’s been hiding it lately with silly hats on court and ridiculous toupees off the court.
Notoriously known for his vanity, the Aussie was looking to gain an edge this year against his competition by leveraging an up to this point unknown thing for him, humility.
30 years ago Andre Agassi came to the AO on a mission. Many fans were shocked after his first round win when the American removed his bandanna and revealed a balding head during the handshake with his South African opponent Grant Stafford. This endearing act won over the Aussie crowd, and Agassi rode the wave of support to claim the title against his rival Pete Sampras.
Nick Kyrgios, always looking for the gamesmanship edge, was looking to do the same thing in a 30th Anniversary “tribute” to Agassi. He was hoping to receive a similar reception not only with the Aussie home crowd but also across social media. The attention seeker would have been the talk of the town. Unfortunately, Kyrgios lost in the first round to Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain. Instead of removing his hat, he sheepishly shook hands and slowly walked over to pack his bags.
I think this would have been a great idea. It’s never too late. Maybe he should go hatless at Wimbledon. What do you all think?
