Baggy d Sweeting 36 62 63

Fun dubs match on now: Fishy/Knowles vs Bryan Brothers

BryBry up a break 4-1 in the first

This is just sad. Am I the only one sick and tired of Sweeting choking up a storm every time he's in the main ATP draw? Reminds me of that IW match where he couldn't finish off Delpotro. If Sweeting doesn't win at least a few rounds at the US Open this year I'm going to be hysterical.

Attended this match. First set I'm thinking, "Ok, this could be The Next Big Thing," as I'd never seen him before and man, he was just pummeling the ball and nailing the lines and corners with such confidence. Then, blah. Confidence and consistency evaporated. Didn't realize this was a regular thing? Shame because this dude has serious game. Only thing that's a little suspect is he seemed to kick serve just about every time, rarely went to the hard flat. Made for a consistent serve, but not an overpowering service game that could be broken. (once Baghdatis stepped a few paces back and ripped from there to begin the point, it gave Sweeting fits)

Oh dear - yet another clueless commentator who's never seen Feli play: assumes that because he's Spanish that 'it must be said that the net is not his natural habitat' - seriously, how do these people have jobs calling tennis matches?!

That has to be the worst set of tennis I've ever seen Sam play. On par with the second half of the Ginepri match at RG.

Anderson leads 7-6(3).

The score this morning says Querrey d. Anderson 7-6 (8 ), 4-6, 6-0. I was watching it live last night and I swear I saw Anderson win the tiebreak 7-3 before I turned off the feed in disgust.

Trippy.

Lopez-Sela has been a great match so far. It's a shame that the stream quality is so unspeakably crap - there aren't even replays.

Gulbis takes the first set 6-4 against Falla.

I don't think Falla is all that good. How in the heck did he almost beat Federer? :)

Oh wow....Gulbis is pushing! I like the variety :) ....3 BPs lost. Time to start crushing the ball Ernests.

Saved me a trip to L.A. I guess. Oh well. Would have liked to see Murray/ Gulbis live...

I guess it's off to Stanford then! :)

More proof Gulbis is an overrated mug. Losing to Falla... LOL. Disgusting how everyone hyped him just because he managed to take a set off Nadal on clay. Typical inconsistent ball basher with no plan B.

Agreed Gulbis is overrated like all big hitters are. Choker journeyman Falla beating him on HC LOL! It shows poor knowledge of the average member of this forum how flashy players and big hitters are so overrated.
Gulbis beat Fed on clay, big deal. Fed is pretty average on clay now.

Blake wins again! :D

3rd QF of the season. He'll play Feli in the QF tomorrow, winner likely to play Muzza.

James seems to be serving well. If he can keep this up, I like his chances tomorrow.

^^YOOHOOO............Jamers Blake on the Comeback trail... Maybe this is the year he WINS the US open......

That Gulbis match was just AWFUL. It looked like no one wanted to win...Gulbis tried about 10 drop shots the last 4 games; no joke. And Falla kept trying to choke match points away by pushing and losing the first 4 of them. Gulbis threw his racquet 5 times.

Seems like Gulbis still has some work to do mentally. The Tsonga comparison someone made earlier seems spot on.

Just checking in from sunny Tenerife. Yes, it is 0330 here.

Any of you US guys got the gen on Tim?

Is this like the 5th consecutive break in a row? Murray leads, 2-1.

And He said, "let there be a hold..."

Andy looking injured.....really not moving well, not even when walking to the chair....

He's completely arming the serve, no legs at all and still getting aces and unreturnables...

What's with Murray? He seems to be playing ok for a bit, then suddenly drops a set... gets up a break in the 3rd, but then suddenly is limping around as if injured. What the heck?

Maybe he just doesn't want to be there. He only came at the last moment when Djokovic dropped out - *puts on tinfoil hat* the ATP probably guaranteed him an appearance fee, because I think the ATP guarantees tournaments at least one top 10 player or something and needed to get some top player to come.

Andy really trying to end points quickly.....

Goes up a double break, 5-2.

Murray pulls it out in 3.

And, just like that, Andy turns his game on and plays some great aggressive tennis to win a few games in a row and the set. I have no idea what to make of this. He'll have to stop having these lapses against better players.

You could see Murray was hardly trying. Perhaps he wanted to try different shots that he could use at US open. I doubt he even cares about these events anymore. Just get some practise in and out you go to win the big ones.

Thanks for pitching in with a field report here. Sweeting totally is the Next Big Thing, except that he has been that for quite a few years now. His form is just about perfect, he is made for this game, how he manages to lose so many matches at lower levels is just beyond me. He is a little bit of a choker, if you ask me. He has the game to beat anyone on the tour, yet he is barely inside top 100 and this is really the time for Sweeting to start asking tough questions of himself. I don’t know about those serving issues or strategy or whatever that you reference, with his stature and form he should not even be seeing any returns worth of mention in his service games. I hope he can learn some lessons from this season and make something happen at the US Open.

Well I hope he tries harder when he makes the final which I will attend.

Apparently, the rest of the world is clueless sleeping on L.A. time!

although it's only 5:40 p.m. here now! :o

None of those are working either. Am very annoyed - this is the match I stayed up for, it's 2.30am here, and they've not shown any of it due to a complete **** up with the streaming.

Yeah sorry guys.. just realized it too.
That´s ******** man the streams for the whole USTA season are disastrous.
