Hey guys (and girls),

So I've got a torn labrum and i'm scheduled to have surgery late december. I was just wondering if anyone with any experience can tell me anything about the surgery, some tips for recovery and a timeline of the recovery.
thanks so so much, really appreciate any help!

There are several threads on this topic already with a wealth of info and experience, including mine. Do a search of existing threads and you will find a cornucopia of wisdom and experience on shoulder surgeries.

Here is "the" shoulder thread. I highly recommend reading it.

Time line of my experience (others and yours will likely vary):
1. Surgery last December - SLAP repair, RC clean-up, Acromioplasty
2. PT started after 2 weeks
3. 6 weeks total in sling
4. Feeding balls to my kids in April (4 months)
6. Cleared for ground strokes in June (6 months)
7. Cleared for serving in September (9 months)
8. Played first "competitive" match 2 weeks ago (11 months)

Still don't feel "normal" or 100% but still making progress. I'm doing PT exercises (strength, endurance, stretching) 3X per week and play tennis 2X per week. I hope to switch those two around eventually.

Good Luck! Follow all OS and PT instructions and be patient!
