This has been a great learning experience for Collins
I can safely say, I will not have to stand on my head. It is pretty windy up there.
Whatever happened to Hale? I recall being very impressed with her game last year when she broke through. She was going for her shots and being an aggressive baseliner. Haven't seen much of that Halep this year, she seems to have become more of a counterpuncher. Any reason for this change? Or is it just me?
Halep really dodged a potential upset. With hope, the 1st day scare will strengthen her mind going forward.
Don't fall on your head whatever you do
Venus is a hot mess right now.
looks like i will be using alot of mobile bandwidth this month. didn't think i would need to be watching Venus' 1st rd...
Maybe, but huge props to Date-Krumm; women's tennis, even more so than the men's, is geared toward younger players. To be out there at 43(!!!) with a lead on a seeded legend is extremely impressive.
there you go V!
puts some spin on the ball, make Date create her own pace...
Venus has to change her bagel order, hoping breadsticks are an option.
Watching Date-Krumm is like watching Tracy Austin vs. Chris Evert.
told you about Date-Krumm ...
Vee did a great job turning this match around. She was so lazy in the first set
don't knock them. they were pretty darn good. great bodies too.
Venus cleaning Date-Krumm's clock. D-K is operating on fumes.
My girl (or one of the Brits I follow) Jo Konta about to start on 11
I guess she should bottle those fumes. She'd make a fortune selling them.
Positive Swedish news, Larsson is tearing Razzano apart.
A lot of loud grunting between Venus and Date.
Holy crap! Date-Krumm! How can you play tennis so well at this age? I mean she's older than Sampras who retired 12 years ago!
Venus looks tired as well. Less of course, like 10 years less or so.
Date-Krumm is amazing.
Yeah. If she was 35 or younger she'd be top 10.
Larsson going for a 2nd helping of NYC bagel
I think she was top5 career-high, so yeah, if she would not have retired for a while who knows?
And finishes it up with the double bagel, bravo
Sloane/Beck best looking match so far.
Some of your posts crack me up
Sloane is playing very well at the moment. She just won the first set against Annika Beck 6-0. Seems as though Hogstedt is a better fit than Annacone. She's using her forehand very effectively. And is serving a lot better than she has in the past. I know that it's "just" Beck but she has to start somewhere.
Very pro Peer crowd against Jo Konta
Nice to see Venus doing Venus. Strong win for her!
They should enjoy her while she lasts; she's not a strong contender for the title.
Kirilenko looking good, well her game especially so far, she always looks good
Anyone else think the opening night US Open match between $harapova and Karilenko is really poor quality? I've seen a lot of exciting and quality matches, THIS IS NOT one of them. Sadly. That sucks they show a poor match at such a big opening night.
Jitters, probably. It is the last major of the year and no one is in a hurry to make 1st round mistakes.
Huh? Looks like a pretty good match to me.
Kirilenko just did a b**** move to that ball girl.
Ball girl comes to get the ball rolling back towards her feet, she kicks it to another direction.
It's the first round....what did you expect?
You obviously have not watched the Kvitova/Robson match in Australian Open 2013, have you?
I'm by no means a Sharapova hater, but hot-diggity, she needs to tone down the fargin shrieking. I think it's louder now that it used to be.
Agreed. Glad I didn't shell out $ to see this travesty. The USA college girl might have been more entertaining.
It just sounds louder at night, but, you are right, it's too loud either way. Very very very annoying and completely unnecessary. I recently watched a rerun of her match against Melani Oudin and she played entire games completely silent. Which means she consciously does it and is aware of how it sounds and clearly does not care what we think about it.
.... Or how it effects her opponent. Those screams go on while her opponent is about to hit the ball. That is a calculated distraction, no better then cheating. She should not be allowed to get away with it.
pretty too LOL.
To each their own.. . And a weird choice wanting to be a reporter given the way she talks.
Chico votes for ivanovic
I just saw that part on TC a few min ago too........what's wrong with how she talks?
She sounded like a confident person but didnt appear like one that is media savvy. Granted, today was her first day on the big stage.
Exactly, so can't really fault her. She's going to be a junior in college interviewing two HOF WTA players, anyone would be a little nervous in her situation. I thought she handled it fine, she's pretty cute too
