Heading to LV for the Wilder fight. Staying on the Strip. Darling TC a little too far away. I see Bally's has some courts. Is that an option for a hit Friday eve 2/21 and Sat morning 2/22? Or, are they going to make me sign up for a clinic? Thx Dave

@mad dog1 your visit was blessed with a level of fantastic luck!

I have not heard anything good about the courts at Bally's ... but if you are time constrained it may be best choice. Give them a call and find out.

Darling is closed on Friday nights and Saturday mornings are usually 100% booked (clinics, juniors and league matches) more likely to get a court there on a Saturday afternoon.

Yup. Thx for the replies. Why would Darling be closed on Fri nights?

They are open 8am-9pm Mon-Thurs; 7am-7pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Don't know why, just how it is. Trust I would prefer they were open later those nights ... that is my home club.

Cool. You and me Saturday morning. I'm a 4.5 senior. Just wanna hit for 90 mins. We hit one ball back and forth no misses for 45 mins. The next 45 mins you choose what you want to do. Get us a court. I'll pay any fees, of course. Dave

I have just broken into a cold sweat thinking about one ball no misses for 45 minutes.

There is an advanced clinic (mostly 4.5 players some 4.0 players) on Saturday mornings at 8am usually plays in stadium court .... its cheap only $10 and there are usually more than a few that grab a court and play pick up afterwards. You will hit a lot of balls. Level is strictly enforced.

If that doesn't work for you I will gladly hit with you but this no misses for 45 minutes nonsense .... ;) ..... just know what you are getting ... 3.5F who hits a decently heavy ball for a 3.5F.

Nope. You and me. It'll be your best 90 mins on a tennis court ever. And fun.

Well if that isn't the most aggressive pick up line I have heard since 1989 ....

Let's do this ... I will get reservations ... 9am work for you or do you prefer a little earlier?

Even the pros miss more frequently than that.

Cool. You mean later. I know you do. Can do 9am but 10am better for me if that works for you. Either way see you 2/22/20. Looking forward to it.

So, I came across a video of two brothers from Ct on youtube some years ago. Indoor court. They set the Guinness record for hitting one ball continuously over the net back and forth. Did it for charity. Accepting donations for the effort/ feat. I stole their idea with a few tweaks. Their video is not terrific. Hard to see exactly what rules they were going by. I assume the record is one or zero bounces and in the court boundaries. I modify it to be one or two bounces, or more if need be, and not a concern if it's out. Just keep it going. Definitely, absolutely not hitting hard as you're most likely imagining. Just get it over the net nice and easy. After about 30 mins, the workout begins. You have to concentrate to keep from missing even the softest of shots. Most I've ever done is exactly one hour - we were watching the clock. The record by the two in Ct is ...

I guess if the objective is not to win the point, but just keep the rally alive, then I could maybe see that. I guess when me and my regular partner play, we hit a few safe shots to start with, but then quickly transition into trying to win the point, so the pace of shot picks up and we start hitting angles and with depth, which is when the unforced errors creep into play, lol.

Yup. This is a 45 minute groove your strokes kind of drill. Nothing more. nothing less.

Are you used to thinner air and possible wind impact?! I've hit at darling and sometimes I'd hit a ball that i was sure was going in and out it would go....and I can play very consistently if called upon to do so.

No prob w/me EP1998 if you join me and ontheline. Years ago I had one of these discussions with a guy in Salt Lake City. I was there w/my wife for a Cal - Utah football game. Set up a hit at world famous Liberty Park. At the last second he cancels. All good. Hit w/my wife. Come one come all.

So a ball or two hits the fence. That's why they're there.

Great. No worries if it's 9am. Won't it be a tad chilly at 9am, though? No need to make enemies on my account.

2 weeks to go. Here's my cell 707 490 5201 Dave. Arriving on the Strip Fri eve. Looking forward to hitting at Darling TC Sat 9/10am-ish for 90 mins. Let me know. Thx.

When you looking to hit? I’m in NYC, 4.0-4.5. I happened to stumble in to this thread as I’m visiting Vegas in March and wanted to see what interest there was like there.

@GaryV I just left NYC ... was there Thursday and left yesterday midday ... never did find anyone/where to hit.

Just played here in Philly with a meetup group ... it was great

We are talking about Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas .... if you are planning a March trip ... let me know and I can help get you connected to some people. The Meetup groups around Vegas are not terribly active with stronger players.

MPRC did not have any open clinics and doesn't do player matching for out of staters ... I suppose I could have taken a $250 lesson from one of their pros but too rich for my blood.

@OnTheLine Thanks. I have a trip planned for 3/13-17, looking to hit the morning of 3/14 for an hour or 2. I'm a pretty solid 4.5. Looking for drills and possibly some pro tiebreaks or possibly a set.

You hit at the world famous liberty park :)

Were you playing with high altitude balls?

I thought it was a great facility. We were there late Oct and they were going to put the winter bubble up the next week. Had a super wall and a lot of courts. What's not to love? (I was hitting w/my wife so I didn't even notice the altitude ball thing. Now, Boulder, CO, that's high altitude hitting.) SLC and Provo and Utah in general a little too weird for me. But, the area around Liberty Park was cool.

Just a confirmation ... court is reserved for Saturday 10am ... at Darling, we have Court 12

@SRUalum ... you around and want to join? Oddly, I am certain there are other Vegas players on the board, just don't know any!

Sweet. I'm in. Looking forward to it. Cosmopolitan Hotel on Strip to DTC s/b 1 1/4 hrs or so on a Sat morning I hope via pub transit. Lv hotel at 8:30. 2 things. (1. Do I check in and pay before going out to court 12? (2. Text me so I have your number just in case I'm late. Thx Dave

Pub transit is kind of challenging in LV ... Uber/Lyft may be your best choice, will be max 30 minutes and probably about $15 ish .... sending you a text shortly

I've got you covered so no need to check in unless you feel like it.

Hoping to rustle up a few more players for the 90 minutes ... I have a singles league match at 2pm so will enjoy a solid hit

muddlehead

Yup. Got it. If you have a singles game at 2p, you're not going to want to play/stand/hit for 90 mins 10a-11:30. Rustle up a few for sure.

I will be fine even if I don't find a few others ... which I will ... however the weather forecast does have me a bit concerned .... rare to see rain potential, but Saturday looks a bit iffy on that front.

I will advise on court conditions per the club manager by 9am .... we typically get 1/2 day of rain every two months, looks like Saturday morning may be that 1/2 day.

On second thoughts, count me out. I am not comfortable with "Strip Tennis." Not the way I was brought up, but it is Vegas, I understand.

Like I said crazy. Rain? Rain? Here in NorCal, we are in the midst of the driest Jan-Feb in the history of forever.

If weather is clear, I might be able to get out of dad duties for a few hours. Haven’t been on the courts as regularly but staying in shape and still hitting from time to time.

We are always shocked when it rains here .... the forecast moved from 80% chance to 100% chance for the morning. Something else we rarely see ... usually when it may rain forecasters just won't go to 100% as it often passes us by.

@SRUalum I will post up here by 9AM ... I may still have your cell as well ... with how well you hit, I am not worried if you haven't been out for a spell.

Back from LV and the fight. My guy lost. Tennis in Summerlin. Lost to the weather. Thx to OTL for all the up (down, actually) dates.
Stayed at the Cosmopolitan. A bit excessive, but, whatever. Somehow yesterday, my son's on an elevator, yes you can get lost in these massive mile x mile Strip properties, elevator door opens up. Voila. Two tennis courts. In the Hotel. There are 2 tennis courts inside the Cosmopolitan hotel!
The night before I had spent more than few moments talking to the concierge about bus routes to Darling Tennis center. I'm old. I like city buses and subways. You woulda thought, just maybe, the guy woulda said at some point, "Hey, you know, we have tennis courts on the property here." But, no.
All good. Life goes on.

The Cosmo has two tennis courts? And yes, the dude could have mentioned it!
Hope you enjoyed your trip

Well, ya know, there were 2 things. Saw my first maga hat in person. That's a wow. That's f'd. And, on the Strip, p/ups caravanning, horns blaring, flying 2 flags. One USA. Other Trump, of course. That's a wow. That's f'd. That's heart stopping. All that was needed to add to the wonderful ambience was the N*zi up/down sirens.
