Laserfibre/Stringway Owners ... help with clamp base

I have the MS200 ECO with dual action clamps.

http://www.keohi.com/tennis/laserfibre/doubleaction/assembly.htm

I noticed the last time I used it that one of the clamp bases isn't staying put.

After clamping the string, securing the base to the clamp base rail, and then releasing the string from the tensioner. I could see the clamp/base unit moving back on the base rail, i.e., not staying in place.

I'm trying to figure out if there is an adjustment screw or some method to prevent this from happening.

Any tips would be appreciated.

BTW, the problem is not drawback. The problem is that the base isn't staying put where I clamp it. The whole base/clamp unit slides back on the rail.

I have never seen a 200, but if the clamps are similar to those on the SW ML90, then I think I know what´s causing this.

I have had the same problem with my clamps. At the base of the clamp unit, underneath the sliding rails, there is a small nut on a threaded bolt. Tighten the nut with a spanner and you should be fine. Don´t tighten it too hard, that will make the locking lever hard to erect.

I think this is a design weakness in the clamps as it needs frequent checking/tightening to ensure that it doesn´t slide during stringing.

Best,
F.

Just saw you had included a link to pics. The clamps look identical to mine, I see the nut in the picture, at the base of the black part.

Tighten it and you´ll be fine:)

I had the same problem. After tightening the nut, all is well.

I never had this "problem," but I did tighten my bases, simply because I am kind of particular about the "feel" of my machine(s)

Yeah, another thing. It felt more "solid" after tightening the base.

Yep, my levers at some point just got a little to easy to flip up, so I tightened them down. I typically have good luck with my machine(s) (slipping, etc) because I'm very sensitive to the feel :)

^^ diredesire,

How do you adjust the flip up lever? Is that also adjusted via the screw underneath the base?

Thanks in advance.

Yep, just tighten the nut, and you'll feel much more resistance in the flip. It basically sets the clamping "pressure" by shrinking the vertical travel until the base locks down onto the bar. It doesn't take very much adjustment, obviously. A few small turns should do, you'll know if you're going the right way ;)

Cool beans.

Thanks dire.

I don't have a dedicated table or rack for the stringer, so I disassemble and stow it afterwards.

So, I'll try the adjustments the next time I restring.

Will report back.

Unfortunately for me, lack of a stand was one of my pet peeves on this machine. I loved it to death, but I'm movin' on ;)

Pulled very true, and was always very gentle, but the clamp drawback always bugged me, frames took a tiny bit too long to mount, and I have a bit of a bum shoulder, so pumping a weight isn't doing me any favors.

I ended up giving my MS200TT to a friend who I owed, and I'm getting a Gamma 5800ELS, whee haw, Gamma points baby :)

So You finally got the 6002, eh?

Diredesire,

I posted a thread to find out about this a while back, but thought I¨d take advantage of your presence in this thread:)

During your time with the 200, did you notice problems with frames stretching or compressing in the hoop during/after stringing?

I am using a SW90 and have so far encountered the following:
Head Prestige and Tecnifibre TFight frames tend to stretch and need the crosses strung (approx 2lbs) lower to come out true.
Bab AeroProDrive tends to compress (1/16"), even when installing crosses 1lb higher than mains.
Pure Drive: You can pretty much do whatever you want with this one.

OR; is the mounting really super sensitive and needs to be spot on to properly support the hoop?

I need to know....

Strung my prince tour diablo mid today.

Did the adjustment per the recommendations and it worked beautifully. Base now stays put. Lever now also has that positive feel to it.

Thanks guys.

I'm actually waiting for a response from gamma tech, then I'll be springing for the 5800 ELS. I picked up the 6002 from a local sporting goods store that is going out of business. It's the pre-cursor to the 6004, but the clamps are screw down type, which are kind of annoying. Mounting system and tensioner are both A-OK, though.

Hi Fredrik.

I've never seen an obvious problem, but i've never measured before/after, since I didn't see any obvious hoop deformations. It is entirely possible that there was a 1/16" difference, unfortunately, I can't do any A/B tests at this point, someone else want to step up?

I've been checking lately. 1/16" is the most deformation i've seen, with most of the frames as the exact measurement as advertised.

The thing I see most is lengthening of frames. I attribute it to either:
-Too loose of mains (one of my clamp bases was loose, and that's probably why the mains were too loose)
-Turn the knob to pull that billiard at 12 o'clock (Imagine the racquet head is a clock) too much

Now, my frames end up as the correct size.

As for the machine, nice get. How much did it cost? My tennis coach said that's the best way to get cheap machines.

I have heard of this racket deformation problem on all machines but generally its because the stringer uses the wrong tensions on the mains and crosses. If the frame gets longer than it is due to the crosses being strung too high and vice versa

I took measurements on two frames a while back and posted the results on G S S

Machine was a 200DX.
