Well, I hope that a next gen wins something, however they must wait until Nadal becomes the undeniable slam KING!!!!

The golden era.

If a player wants to be a GS champion these days he needs to elevate his level to beat the Goats. No freebies for Thiem, but his level is getting higher by the day because of the challenge.

Oh, God. That is a bad look.

Djokovic is capable of winning against the strongest of competitions . It is not his fault that current pposition is not great . He had the most toughest of competition from 2007-14. He toughed it out and is now reaping the benefits

The sadder number is that the last 14 slam winners were over 31, an age when most players used to be retired.

What about now?

The first young ATG showed up in the form of Alcaraz. Let's measure it from then. You'll see the younger guys suddenly win more and more.

Let's face it - without Sinner or Alcaraz no one probably was beating 36-7 yo Djokovic during the span from Wimby last year to Wimby this year.

Before these two, especially Alcaraz, emerged you could probably still be like "maybe Djokovic is too good". But once one half-decent player showed up and beats him while Djokovic continues to dismantle the rest of the tour as an old man, the contrast tells you how weak the pre-Alcaraz generation has been.

I give Djokovic full credit - he deserves all the slams and there's no proof anyone, even if better than the lost or next gen, could have beaten Djokovic in any of the slams he earned. But admitting Djokovic's opponents were kinda weak and acknowledging Djokovic's greatness are not mutually exclusive - he would have won all those had the generation been stronger anyway, but it doesn't mean the generation wasn't objectively weak.

What's more sad is that there were only 5 finalists under the age of 28.

2 alcaraz level players since 2020 and Djokovic is a 17-18 slam guy, nowhere near 24 slams or 5000’weeks or whatever he has at number 1.
