Hi folks.
This is an ongoing problem for two years or so. Apologies first off for the technical stuff below but for some this stuff makes sense.
My most recent MRI scan revealed as reported
A 6mm partial thickness tear of the extreme anterior leading edge of the superspinatus tendon. Problems are consistent with tendonitis.
Mild heterogenity of the subscapularis tendon is consistent with tendonitis, no full thickness rotator cuff tear is seen.
Normal position of the long head of biceps tendon.
Signal abnormality involving the anterior glenoid labrum is consistent with labral tear.
No evidence for impingement.
Impression: Partial thickness undersurface tear of the superspinatus tendon with subscapularis tendonosis.
Tear of the anterior glenoid labrum.
Surgeon recommended rest and shoulder exercises(been down that road 3 times also and the pain always recurs)
This was my third MRI and showed a marked improvement in the last 6 months from my last scan.
I also had to play some representative tournaments so I took a cortisone shot in my shoulder to cope.
The shot lasted 6 weeks but freed up shoulder movement..
The cortisone has only worn off in the last few weeks but worked well for me in competition.
Heres the thing! Before I took the injection and for the last two years a push up was out of the question or any overhead gym work was a no go area.
However, the affects of the cortisone have worn off in the last few weeks and im finding my shoulder has improved great since pre cortisone shot even though the cortisone effect is long gone.
I can do press ups now and can push harder on the shoulder rehab exercises.
Am I correct in thinking that this is good or should I refrain from doing push ups?
I realise tendon issues are very different from other injuries.
Ive been so long curtailed by this injury I'm possibly too keen now to push on in its rehabilitation.
Had loads of pt, throwers ten etc etc but its only in the last few weeks I feel it really has begun to get better.
Am I foolish to do push ups at this stage?(no pain) or is it finally getting better as push ups were out of the question a few months ago.
Thanks in advance. As anyone who has had this problem will know its quite the tennis players nightmare so any help is gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
