Yonex Eclipsion 3 Clay - these are soo good that I am immediately thinking about buying several more pairs. Went to the forum to see what everybody thinks - but no threads. I'm surprised so few people here mentioned Yonex shoes. I play mostly on clay, but I am an agressive mover.
After years and years of Adidas, I went Yonex Eclipsion 2 Clay. After Feather 2's at the beginning of this thread Adidas has become total trash for me. Mesh and laces breaking in the first week. No midfoot support for the Feather 3/Ubersonic, though someone will like it, made my feet hurt, an obvious lack of stability. Barricades becoming too big and heavy AND breaking in two weeks etc. Other brands, Nike and Asics had the wrong shape for me, too wide in the midfoot usually, with Adidas I had the arch support and my insoles fit perfectly. I also had problems with knees, patellae, so I really have to think about shoes, insoles and stretching.
So I bought Yonex Eclipsion 2 Clay - best shoes I ever had. And quality is high, materials, laces, everything. Another world after Adidas. After a lot of play they are as new except the bottom surface of course. Although I am relatively thin and taller, and I don't drag so much. Yonex uses a different clay court pattern on the outsole and I find it better than the common one. I've just replaced them with Eclipsion 3 Clay after trying out some other shoes. I wrote a comment on TW:
"A very positive surprise, in every way. My first Yonex shoes were Eclipsion 2 Clay, so let me compare. Weight is identical to Eclipsion 2, which is very important, these are not heavy clunky shoes. They are also low to the ground and fast and nimble and comfortable. On the photo they might look heavy, but they are not. I tried the Asics Gel Resolution 8 shoes, they are noticeably heavier than these, stiff and way too wide in the midfoot, a bit small forefoot. Also tried Adidas SoleCourt Boost, just too heavy and big, these Eclipsion 3's are much better but still completely stable and cushy. Roomy and soft toe box, ideal for fast low stance play, my toes can extend and spread. Perfect tight soft fit in the midfoot, Eclipsion 2 was a bit wide for me there, I need a bit higher arch support. Very thick and cushy tongue, soft laces, they seem identical to Eclipsion 2, and those are still as new after one year of play. Quality of materials and durability on Eclipsion 2's is 5 stars, these seem the same quality. I am 1.91/6'3, 82kg/180 pounds, fast and agile, train with pros, and have an attacking style of play. Shoes are size 46EU/12 US, my anatomical insole. All in all A++ shoes."
Please, what do you think? Experiences with Yonex Eclipsion 2 or 3?
