Laver Cup 2022

For all the snowflakes whining about Tiafoe, look at it this way -- it shows a lot more respect to Fed when you play all out against him than it would by passing up the best shot option and giving Fed an easier shot to return.
Bunch of whining little kids. Federer wouldn’t want someone to go easy on him. Federer also doesn’t want people to not give their all in the Laver Cup. Lastly, pretty sure Fed doesn’t give a flying F about losing this match. It’s rather a good thing for his tournament that we’ve finally got a tie after day 1. Honestly, it was a very entertaining match and this is a great way for him to go out. Would’ve been bad if the match had a boring score line.
ETA: also, don’t let my profile pic fool you, I’m a huge Fed fan first and foremost. Still don’t care about Tiafoe going at him. Even in an exho that’s allowed.

O my goodness.

i am messed up.

also - Jim courier needs to know when let the man go.

Courier did. He said he had more questions, but he recognized ending with the one on family and friends was best.

Aside from the stuff post-Courier interview, it was overall a very good send-off. Thankfully it didn't have the endless gushing that Serena's did. Federer going out surrounded by and supported by his toughest competitors, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray, was fitting.

If Roger had any emotional feelings that were haunting him, this occasion would cure those feelings. He's really loved by many people and that's something special, because a lot of people lack love in their own life and stay unloved most of their life. In that sense, he is truly blessed.

Federer could at least have flown out of the arena wearing a jet pack. Like Michael Jackson used to do after singing Man in the Mirror.

Wish he had won that doubles match though but not to be for whatever reason but in the end, that didn't matter because clearly it wasn't about winning the match.

Tiafoe and Sock have the story of a lifetime to tell their kids and grandkids. It's just sheer luck that they were there alongside Roger - and Rafa - for Roger's last match. It's nearly immaterial that they won; the weight of the experience is being there with two legends, the atmosphere, the spectacle of Roger's swan song.

Agreed. Djokovic may be around in two years but doubt any of the others will be.
Well Nadal won two GS this year and was very close to returning to #1 so I suspect he isn't thinking of retirement just yet.

However, two years are a long time at their age, and particular with Nadal's history of injuries of course it's quite possible that he'll be retiring in two years' time. But I won't be surprised if he's still playing and winning either!

Tiafoe hadn't even taken a set from Nadal before this year :-D he's the biggest loser ever to win a title (his sole title, delray beach 2018).
I gotta say, Tiafoe's blasting Fed and Rafa at net near the end of the match was a dumbass move. He had every right of course, but the man is retiring, the match is super close, there are no ranking points on the line... it was totally unnecessary and should not have happened.

He has a kid on the way and I don't think he'll want to travel too much.

He was doing what he thought he needed to in order to win. That shows Fedal much more respect than taking it easy on them.

He's absolutely thinking about retirement he's said at like every event he doesn't know if he'll ever be back. He's still got something left but I suspect 2024 will be his last full year on tour.

There's just something special about the relationship between Federer and Nadal... they might have started out as the biggest of rivals, but clearly they have the utmost respect for one another, and have actually ended up as close friends.

Don't think the same can be said with Djokovic.

The Fed/Djokovic relationship started out with true animosity, but it has mellowed out to at least the level of mutual respect.

Like coworkers who kind of get along at the job, but wouldn't go out together for drinks

Not sure why Nadal fans are making things about Nadal more when it's about Federer tonight. And stop the unnecessary hate on Novak. There's a time and place for everything.

Not the day to bring this up. Novak’s been a class act throughout and there is a lot more mutual respect and bonding than is apparent.
