He can't beat him singles, not even in doubles...Rafa will get him back at some point.

This is being said about him for many years.Nadal is clearly close to done. If he's still playing in 2 years I'll be surprised.
Bunch of whining little kids. Federer wouldn’t want someone to go easy on him. Federer also doesn’t want people to not give their all in the Laver Cup. Lastly, pretty sure Fed doesn’t give a flying F about losing this match. It’s rather a good thing for his tournament that we’ve finally got a tie after day 1. Honestly, it was a very entertaining match and this is a great way for him to go out. Would’ve been bad if the match had a boring score line. For all the snowflakes whining about Tiafoe, look at it this way -- it shows a lot more respect to Fed when you play all out against him than it would by passing up the best shot option and giving Fed an easier shot to return.
This is the perfect bookend to the laughing GIFs from the iconic interview.
Very true. I can see those tears being used as GIFs in the future. This is the perfect bookend to the laughing GIFs from the iconic interview.
O my goodness.
i am messed up.
also - Jim courier needs to know when let the man go.
I turned the TV off immediately after it was over. I am a bad person.
Tiafoe hadn't even taken a set from Nadal before this yearHe can't beat him singles, not even in doubles...
It doesn’t matter in the small scheme of things either. All this match needed to be was entertaining, and it was.I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I wanted him to go out on a win.
Well it is his lifelong rival retiring. Probably thinking about all the matches they had together from 2004 until 2019Surprised Nadal is so emotional tbh. Guess he can feel the end of the era approaching as well.

They don't like each other. I guess he's just caught up in the emotion. Why is Novak crying? I can get Nadal crying as they were close but I thought Fed and Novak didn't like each other.
"This one's for suresh"Fed should have given his TTW fan base a shout-out
Well Nadal won two GS this year and was very close to returning to #1 so I suspect he isn't thinking of retirement just yet.Agreed. Djokovic may be around in two years but doubt any of the others will be.
I gotta say, Tiafoe's blasting Fed and Rafa at net near the end of the match was a dumbass move. He had every right of course, but the man is retiring, the match is super close, there are no ranking points on the line... it was totally unnecessary and should not have happened.Tiafoe hadn't even taken a set from Nadal before this yearhe's the biggest loser ever to win a title (his sole title, delray beach 2018).
Because they've been through a lot together over the years. Why is Novak crying? I can get Nadal crying as they were close but I thought Fed and Novak didn't like each other.
So he should have tanked? What kind of nonsense is that?I gotta say, Tiafoe's blasting Fed and Rafa at net near the end of the match was a dumbass move. However, two years are a long time at their age, and particular with Nadal's history of injuries of course it's quite possible that he'll be retiring in two years' time. But I won't be surprised if he's still playing and winning either!

Novak showing great respect, class and admiration to a great champion. Why is Novak crying? I can get Nadal crying as they were close but I thought Fed and Novak didn't like each other.
He was doing what he thought he needed to in order to win. That shows Fedal much more respect than taking it easy on them.I gotta say, Tiafoe's blasting Fed and Rafa at net near the end of the match was a dumbass move. better for the Laver Cup this way, otherwise people would think everything's riggedI know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I wanted him to go out on a win.
He's absolutely thinking about retirement he's said at like every event he doesn't know if he'll ever be back. He's still got something left but I suspect 2024 will be his last full year on tour.Well Nadal won two GS this year and was very close to returning to #1 so I suspect he isn't thinking of retirement just yet.

No, he shouldn't have tanked, but don't aim for the guy with a 95mph fastball. So he should have tanked? What kind of nonsense is that?
If that's the play that you think will give you the best chance of winning the point, any other shot would have been taking it easy on them rather than trying to win.No, he shouldn't have tanked, but don't aim for the guy with a 95mph fastball.
The Fed/Djokovic relationship started out with true animosity, but it has mellowed out to at least the level of mutual respect. There's just something special about the relationship between Federer and Nadal... they might have started out as the biggest of rivals, but clearly they have the utmost respect for one another, and have actually ended up as close friends.
Don't think the same can be said with Djokovic.

I reckon Kyrgios is your best betStill waiting for the day a player will name us publicly. It has yet to happen, right?
Tiafoe/Sock didn't get the point of all this. In their place, I would have gifted the match point to Fed.

Like coworkers who kind of get along at the job, but wouldn't go out together for drinks
any crying fed meme
Not the day to bring this up. Novak’s been a class act throughout and there is a lot more mutual respect and bonding than is apparent. There's just something special about the relationship between Federer and Nadal... they might have started out as the biggest of rivals, but clearly they have the utmost respect for one another, and have actually ended up as close friends.
