Laver Cup feels even more artificial and manufactured this year

How do you stage a tennis match? Please script it out for me. I'm incredibly interested how someone can get an ace on queue or make a perfect drop volley to win a key set point? You don't and you can't. This isn't Hollywood, they don't get 100 takes to get it right, this is live. The matches are real, stop being foolish.

Maybe some of the hugs and roars are artificial to hype the crowd but guess what THAT HAPPENS IN EVERY DAMNED SPORT ON THE PLANET, it even happens in the blander than oatmeal Davis Cup, stop being foolish.

The hate is escalating the more the Laver Cup succeeds, is this because it's a Federer created event? Is it because Rafa isn't there? Or is it because Djokovic hasn't won a match?

I sometimes wonder if there's anything in life some of you enjoy.

Oh and all you trying too hard killjoys, this is great for tennis. They've sold over 50,000 tickets to the 3 day event that had to compete with the Bulls, Bears, White Sox and Cubs. I wouldn't be surprised if for the majority in attendance this is the first live tennis they've ever seen and they've had one helluva good time.

I haven't got it on hand, but in his book Open Andre Agassi goes into detail how he tanked a match. I think McEnroe might have talked about fixing exhibition matches so they would be competitive in his book as well...

Seeing Fed cheer Djokovic was just strange and unnatural.

Last year was way more for fun, the novelty has worn off a bit. Plus I can't watch four matches a day.

It already was this way last year, from the beginning. I think Federer will always be excited because it seems he was very involved in starting this event. Once Fedalovic retires, I wonder if this will continue on.

Great post!

To add:
Isner said in press (I think after his loss to Fed): "It's[LC] not a show. If it is, then we're incredible actors."

And we all know how great of an actor dorky Fed is...:

I think you can still stage it in tennis. You could just go all out in 70% points then half-assed some points. Like run slower, pretend to be pressured and double fault, pretend to be pressured and it right to the net. Etc. That said, I don't think LC is rigged. If it is then Zverev is getting a lawsuit for not following the script lol...

my post yesterday

I'm gonna make my predictions for tomorrow's results

Sock/Isner def. Federer/Zverev
7 - 8

Federer def. Isner
10 - 8

Anderson def. Zverev
10 - 11

Djokovic def. Kyrgios
13 - 11

or it might be

Sisner def. Zed
7 - 8
Isner def. Federer
7 - 11
Zverev def. Anderson
10 - 11
Kyrgios def. Djokovic
10 - 14

Kyrgios avenges his loss last year and saves Team World.

Its gonna come down to final match-up as it was intended so it could be suspensful until the end. Take a look at my post above :D

Oh look, you’re wrong already!:D

I too don't think it's rigged.

Many that think otherwise forget that it's EXHAUSTING to even think of planning this much drama. So much so, that it's unrealistic. Some of the BEST stories in sports just 'happen'. You can't plan it, and when it does happen, you STILL don't believe you've witnessed it. With LaverCup, Fed just created a format where the best compete against the best, and the stories will write themselves. Look at this LaverCup, woo! The tenseness was through the roof!

And people seem to forget that Federer is one of most respectful player ever in regards to tennis history. He respects the game and its history too much to stage outcomes. He can barely walk in the finals of Montreal2017, yet completed the match. The guy refuses to even retire from matches when he easily could. That's 1400+ matches, yet zero retirements, all bc he respects his opponents and the game too much. Suddenly he's gonna make a mockery of the same game that gave him everything? Ya, nice logic.

Ahaha yeah, I feel like a huge dork. Maybe Zverev did not get the script and wanted the glory for himself. I thought they'd at least try to get all the matches played or maybe give World team the win this time, guess not, maybe its only half rigged.

Thank fxxx for some sanity on here, at last.

The Laver Cup is a great opportunity to see match-ups you may never see again, from the best players in their prime, hitting shots they would never hit if there was a couple million bucks in prize money on the line in a tournament final. They came out by Roger's behest to honour one of the BEST in history--Rod Laver. You'll be seeing some shots they would never pull out ordinarily in a big money match--(except for Kyrigos). And throw in a rare appearance by Bjorn Borg and Mac on the sidelines--if they were really messing around, Bjorn and Mac would be playing too--which would be a hoot to see--how 'bout Bjorn and Mac vs Roger & Joker? Or, Roger/Bjorn vs Joker/Mac? Umpire & Serena.

They're replaying the Laver Cup all this week on TC, just saw Isner get a "knock-down" on Roger on the "biggest body serve" Nick Kyrgios said he'd ever seen--Jack Sock looked dismayed too. Roger looked none too amused by this afront.
If this is "theatre" it's pretty good! Maybe there'll be some Pete/Andre pockets out moments yet.

Spectators crowd the practice courts at I-W to watch the greats practice--The Laver Cup is like a tweener.
