Laver Cup to San Francisco in '25

G.O.A.T.
The 2025 edition of the Laver Cup will be held in San Francisco at the home of the Golden State Warriors, tournament organizers said Thursday.

It marks the first time the three-day team tournament, pitting six top men's players from Europe against six of their counterparts from the rest of the world, will be held on the U.S. West Coast.

Next year's Laver Cup, which will mark the eighth edition of the event co-created by Roger Federer and honoring tennis great Rod Laver, will be held Sept. 19-21.

"Bay Area fans will love the way the Laver Cup brings together the world's top players as teammates," Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion who helped Team Europe win three Laver Cup titles, said in a news release. "They will get to see them putting aside their rivalries and sitting courtside together cheering each other on. This doesn't exist anywhere else."

This year's Laver Cup, where Team World will target a third consecutive victory, will be held Sept. 20-22 in Berlin.

Some people will travel to London and SF to see Laver Cup.
Nobody wants to travel to Australia.
SoCal people will definitely fly up. Also anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, Vancouver) and other western states are an easy flight. People will make a trip to SF out of it.

I can't imagine this event lasting for too many more years.

The team designations are artificial and so stupid.
"Team World"

How about something real and interesting: Team Russia vs Team Ukraine/NATO.

That would be pretty great. Howabout Team USA verse Team Pooh. Peng Shuai could be a co-captain for Team Pooh, if they can find her.

Without aggressive shotmakers like Roger / Nick, nobody is going to watch an exo made up of bunch of grinders hitting balls until their opponents make an error. Might as well watch paint dry.

So excited and happy for folks on the West Coast.

Exciting format for the young and old alike. Perfect what the sport needs to rope in young audience.

I didn’t realize they were still doing this team tournament Exo.
Its a tournament, just an unusual format. The reason I say that is the the H2H records are recorded in ATP's database against players records. They wouldn't do that for Exhibition events.

example Federer vs Kyrgios

They do when your name is FEDR. If you want to think it a tournament feel free. I know an Exo when I see one.

Spot on. It has its issues. But it’s still one of the most beautiful places to visit and live. And being a sports fan in general, visitors from nearby states often choose it as a destination to travel to and make a long weekend out of it.
Kralingen is afraid if Chef Curry ends up having more rings than his idol LJ.
I hope it happens!
:)

Tennis is primarily an individual sport.
The team format can definitely work, as we see in Davis Cup.

But the Laver Cup "Team World" vs "Team Europe" format is meaningless and absurd.
Why are all these Laver Cup players jumping up and down for their "team"? Even Borg is excited.
Is this excitement for real?

It is so over the top and bizarre. The Laver Cup phoniness is rather offensive. It insults our intelligence.

It does harken back to trans-Atlantic rivalries so it's interesting. America got subsumed into the World, which is a first.

San Francisco created the counter-culture and the computer-culture, so what more could you ask for?
I thought that the counter-culture was created by CIA experimenting with LSD (on soldiers and students) thus creating a hippy movement. And the computer-culture was created by NSA trough IBM with connections of Bill Gates mother who arranged young Bill first big job - creation of a personal computer (spying device in every home) .

“Even Borg is excited.”

That’s proof it’s completely contrived.
