Laver Cup

Kei was asked to play, but he had scheduling conflicts. He actually withdrew from the Tokyo Open two days ago, so he most likely wouldn't play had he participated.

Like @icedevil0289 said, 3 players are chosen based on their rankings after the French Open, and the other 3 are captain's picks. I don't know the process for choosing the other 3 players. It seems for Team World, Sock, Isner, and Kyrgios will most likely be there again next year. I'm not certain about Fritz. Sure, he was a good part of the team, but there's truly a lack of diversity on that team. I mean, they had 3 Americans, 2 Canadians, and 2 Australians that is supposed to represent the world. All English speaking countries. I'd like for McEnroe to pick other guys.
the lack of diversity was really one of the main things that bothered me about team world, it was basically n.america featuring nick. I feel like nick will somehow always be attached to this event, and i dont mind it, probably because Australia is a major backer of this tournament. but i agree imo fritz could have been replaced by diego and did they really need two canadians who actually, sorry to the fans, were probably the most useless. ffs even sock won a singles match, though that might be due to fabio.

to be honest i would definitely love more clarity into the choosing process, who has control over it. I am going to assume nick (due to the promotional video for boston). Assuming they do stick with nick, john, and jack as their constants, who else would do you pick for team world?

of course, also depends whether Russia is considered part of Europe or not! I'm sure BigMac would love to have 1 or 2 Russians on his team.

BTW, anyone knows what is Sock's training routine and eating habits? I was shocked when I saw him play, he looks huge! And not in a good way :) He must have gained 30 lbs or more.

and on Team Europe, I would love to see the 3 greats... if Borg can get Roger, Rafa and Novak on the same team, that's money in the bank. There's no way this dream team could loose to anyone right now.

the haters and lave cup denialists are losing it because this has become the most popular tennis event outside the majors. and it has been a success in every way imaginable for rod laver and

No, no, no... he has definitely gained A LOT of weight since I last saw him play maybe 1 year ago. Check out older matches... just saying.

Diego, Delpo, and Anderson. If Delpo is physically well, I think he will make an appearance next year. Kei would be great, but I don’t think he will ever be able to play since the Laver Cup will always be in late September. They do need an Asian player for sure. Chung (if he can get his ranking back up) would be interesting.

He just might... :happydevil:
When Fedal is retired and injuries everywhere they can just create their own tour, would probably get more attention than ATP :p
Its insane though, the intensity those two brings. Look in Laver cup. The enthusiasm and all the emotions also makes things happen to the other players on the team. They are a league of their own.
Rafa and Fed fans hate each other, but we have to admit that one wouldnt be the same without the other, its been an important dynamics for tennis. And for so long. Not sure it has happen before something similar for a long period. Rivalries are everything in tennis and Fedal brought this even further. They are actually nice to each other, and make all this energy for the tour. They havent been villains but let their good vibes and racquet do the talking, brought them stratospheric.

I like Laver Cup because it brings out these moments of teamwork and camaraderie that tennis, being an individual sport, greatly lacks. It almost seems like the players were smiling more and generally having more fun this week compared to regular singles where everyone seems pretty uptight. I’m not saying it’s bigger than a major, but compare Team Europe’s victory celebrations with even some grand slam wins like Andeescu USO 19 or Djokovic Wimbledon 19. It’s not as iconic as a singles win, but there’s something about a team victory that makes it more fun.

You also see a lot more of the players’ personalities in Laver Cup. I like how the camera focuses on each camp’s conversations during changeovers. In regular tournaments, the only time you hear the players talk is in repetitive interviews or arguments with umpires lol.

Federer's body language has never struck me as being more positive than the average player.
And when he's losing he looks very negative :)
But he plays aggressively, so he's positive in that sense.

He had a thumb injury that caused him not to be able to do a whole bunch for a significant portion of the year, I'd assume that's why.

Are there any Russians playing this year?. If Medvedev had played would he have been on Team Europe according to current rules?

TsitsiGOAT knows

"I enjoy the company of everyone, even the coach and the captains. We have great chats. We kind of get to know each other better, and, I mean, it's unbelievable because I see another side of Roger and Rafa when I'm spending time with them which I didn't know existed before."

Has anyone commented on the dynamic between Kyrgios and Mac? It seems strained on court.
was it? there was definitely one moment during the doubles against nadal/tsitsipas where i think mac may have insinuated that nick was messing around and idk if nick took it well, but it didn't last too long. tbh i think i liked nick coaching the players far more than mac, he basically helped fritz imo with thiem and his tone wasn't as obnoxious as jmac.

jmac really wanted to win, not that he was taking this as a joke the last two years, btu i feel like this year it was essential he wins. on another note the last two years, team world would crash europe's celebrations for fun, but idt they did that this year
