Laver: Fed is GOAT

Why do you believe Laver is a fanboy? The man is 81, he's a bit old for that kind of thing.

(In actual fact, I think Laver still believes that he himself is GOAT, but he's too polite to say it)
You don't believe the elderly can become devout fanatics in sports?

You've never been to Serbia... Here older folks are the most fanatical Novak supporters, we even have jokes about this phenomenon.

Fanboy to me suggests a teenager with a picture of Federer on their wall. I doubt Laver is that emotionally invested in Roger's success.

In any case, as I said, I suspect he still considers himself GOAT.

We wouldn't want Lavey to become disillusioned at his age. Anyone who greets him on the street. just tell him "you're still best ever".

A great candidate for sure but not the clear-cut GOAT.

Fed had chances to put this debate to bed during the course of his career, but it wasn't meant to be.

Other rivals stepped up.

BTW - its clear that Laver loved Fed's style and he would like fed to be goat everything else being equal. but he also cannot deny djokovic or rafa their greatness. Same with pete sampras on grass.

Nice opinion sans facts.

Laver never said “I like Fed to be GOAT”. That’s a fact. Also, last I checked, “rivals stepping up” is not a criteria for picking the GOAT.

Personally for me, Fed has been the GOAT since 2009. He confirmed that status in 2012 and 2017. Fed is just one away from tieing Djoko at the AO and one away from leading at the USO. I don’t see anyone else with better #’s than that.

Nadal and Djoko has a chance to put themselves in the debate. But, the GOAT is also at work on the finishing. Tomorrow is not guaranteed for anyone.

Lol. I just don't consider stuff played as "amateurs". Like 8 people draws.
All the pro players played first as amateurs. You can't ignore their amateur careers. They strongly develop their style, movement, technique etc. And then invited to pro were only the best amateurs.

8-man draws (or less) by the amateurs were only about 2-3% of the tournaments.
