Leander Paes selected for his 7th Olympics, Bopanna tried to snub him in favour of a journeyman

Paes has way more talent than any Indian tennis player. He deserves it.

Saying this, I bet Bhopana is worried about the bullets opponents are gonna fire at him on Paes's serve..!!!

In a zillion years, India will not choose a challenger singles player over Paes.

What Bopanna did was stupid. He is just making a statement little realizing that He will regret his actions years down the line.

I would sooner have team chemistry then team animosity, challenger player or not.

This is not like a whole tennis season - like a Davis Cup , that the pairing is fixed for.

It is for a week. May be they will practice for 2-3 days before that.. They have paired and won in recent Davis Cup and this is not a spat like Mahesh-Leander which was all over the media.

I guess the results will speak for themselves.

Talent does not equal success..!!!! Plus if you tell me he has more talent than Paes at the net, you gotta get your eyes checked my man..!!! YES, even at this age he is better at net than 99% of the ATP.

Dude, I was joking. Paes is still the shiznitz.

Word is that he was/is extremely selfish, tries to grab the limelight at the cost of his partners, interfered in the growth of the younger indian players etc. Now this could all be hearsay, but this is a fairly reliable source. If it was just Bhupathi he had a problem with, you could blame Bhupathi for it -- but it's literally every other Indian player who has a problem with him.

You mean "Team Bhupathi" ?
Someone on this forum poasted that he has several other players (whom he may have helped or groomed) doing as he says. So they (Bopanna etal) have to support Bhupathi in attacking Paes.

The only issue I can think of is their fight over some actress in a hotel lobby.

Anyway, I have no idea what the truth is. So not taking sides. All i can say is that I enjoy Paes' tennis, and I cannot say the same for MB.

I hardly think that Sania, Devvarman are beholden to Bhupathi, and Bops after he's broken out and a highly ranked dubs player himself hardly needs Bhupathi anymore. So this whole angle of "team bhupathi" does not make sense. Why would Sania and Bopanna screw their chances of a medal merely to spite Paes ?

Sentinel, you are from TN? So cool! As a little kid, i always wanted to visit your great state because of its very tennis-y name. I just assumed there were courts everywhere.

So, memphis, knoxville or NashVegas?

Kidding. I looked at the map. Must be Tamil Nadu. Nice.
Ok, sorry, back on topic. How did it end up with Paes and the olympic squad? Seventh olympics is remarkable.

^I knew that on some level.^
TN...the source of your brotherly love. So clear now.
Just got up and saw the news, out in the first round !!

The first comment in that article obviously did not read the article before firing off. He says that LP is already 47 and will be 51 in 2020, LOL.
Ah, the humor and wisdom in the comments section (sometimes both)...
one of the reasons I enjoy this forum.

I Am a part of the idiocy, too. I really think some folks are going to believe y'all are from tennessee instead of the state of TN.

Ok, curiosity here....
What ever became of the tamil tigers? I remember the conflicts in the early-mid nineties.

Few can approach your standards of tennis Sureshs, but can we really say the man does not even play?
Are you also originally from Tennessee?
We have to first understand suresh's definition of "play".
When people first saw the great suresh gif, they thought it was an oak tree on the tennis court (somehow) waving it's branches on a very windy day.
The only thing they got right was the "windy" part.

I had to convince them that trees were not planted inside courts, and it was a slightly plump human being who did not move his feet at all (for mortal fear of foot fault, perhaps).

Since then, "stationary" and "sureshs" have become synonymous in tennis folklore, although some people (like LeeD) just refer to him as an "immobile old fart".
