Leather grip...

POGforEver

Rookie
I'm getting two racquets with one size smaller grip than I like, but they also come with a synthetic grip. I usually play with leather and an overgrip, so would a lather grip be thicker than the original syn. one, without too much weight increase? I don't want to use a heat shrink sleeve because the weight increase is too much (one of my POGs has one already). Thanks!

A leather grip is actually thinner than the synthetic replacement grips, but because it doesn't compress when you squeeze it, it will feel larger. However, the difference is definitely nowhere near one whole grip size.

It'll feel like a difference of 1/8" or a half-grip size, smaller, with leather over a synthetic grip. And sorry to say, a leather grip is about as heavy as it gets. Probably heavier than that sleeve.

Kabob is right, adding a leather grip will make your racquet heavier than it is with a synthetic grip, but at least it won't add as much to swingweight as the same weight added to the head. POGs are all about feel, and leather is sweet if you can deal with the weight and some stress to your index finger's knuckle (that's what I've found, anyway).

Leather does affect swingweight somewhat. It adds weight to the handle which in turn makes the racquet a bit more headlight.

But making the racquet more headlight does not affect swingweight much. It is impossible to reduce swingweight, so making the racquet a bit more headlight would increase it slightly, but only very slightly.
