Left racquets in trunk during the rains

Excuse me for my OCD. I left some of my racquets in a tennis bag in my car trunk this last weekend. We've been experiencing non-stop monster rain storms for the past two days in Southern Cal so heat wasn't a problem. However, did the excessive rains cause a greenhouse effect in the trunk and damage the racquets? They look fine on an eyeball inspection.

Nope. I live in SoCal too, and it's pretty amazing how it rained like crazy on Sunday, but it's sunny today...
But your racquets should be totally fine. There wasn't enough moisture out there to condense the inside your car.

Thanks. I'm breathing easier now. It sucks though that the weather is pretty much shot for the rest of the week here.

BTW, trunks don't get especially hot in the summer. Nothing like the inside of a car where the sun causes a greenhouse effect.

Racquets are fine, it's the strings that could be an issue, especially if you string with gut.

I leave mine in my trunk year round in Florida. It gets pretty hot here in the summer and I've never had a problem.

My racquets stay in my trunk year round too and I'm in the Rocky Mountains. We see desert like heat in the summers and frigid temperatures in the winters. I've never had a damaged racquet because of the temperatures. And to be honest, i don't notice my strings being affected either. Maybe I break them often enough to not worry about. Shrug.

I do break strings quicker in the colder months.

In fact, car heat won't kill modern rackets. The strings will go first.

Think of the 150 celcius that's used to bake rackets in their mold. That's much hotter than the inside of a car.

Rain really made me mad. On spring break and expected to enjoy some sunny SD weather and BLAM! Rain! :(

Your complaining about weather, summer is only 3 months here in Canada, you have no idea how lucky you are

I know. It rains for 2 days in SoCal and it's like the apocalypse. Save the racquets, the women, and the children! They're fine, dude.

Don't mind me--I'm just jealous. :)

Seriously!! How come a little rain is considered a "severe storm" in CA? I mean, yeah we don't see it enough. But it's not THAT bad!

can you provide a link to confirm this???

Doesnt really need a link, because there are no windows or areas for direct light to get into the trunk, id assume itd be insulated enough to keep the temperature and moisture relatively constant granted there will be changes based on weather but nothing too extreme

Is it just me who finds it a bit funny that someone fears that moisture (water) would damage their racket? Unless its a wooden racket with gut strings.

Left a Wilson Advantage with Victor Imperial strings in a trunk. Racquet head twisted 45 degrees, ruined. Left graphite racquets in a tennis bag in the trunk for a weekend. Grips were soaked and never dried. Could scrape the scum off the Fairways. Got a hatchback, no more trunks and stopped using tennis bags. Run to the courts now like Mike Tyson, towel and racquets in hand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G5dbCatqVk&feature=related

Lets not have anybody from Southern Cal complain about the weather.
Move to Ohio and then you have the right!

Which is why the first sentence of my thread stated "excuse me for my OCD." I admitted my quirk. In fact, I started another thread about the obsessive-compulsive habits of tennis players some time ago. Many posters weighed in with their unusual habits and customs. So Mr. PC, you need not state the obvious that yes, we tennis players have our weird habits and concerns, OK?

My complaint represented a complaint from one SoCal resident to another SoCal resident. I know we have it lucky here compared to other places. But don't worry. We're overdue for a massive earthquake in this area. When that happens, I doubt anyone will be envious of SoCal weather.

OK. And sorry, english not being my first language, I missed the OCD reference.
