Not surprised V/C is better than Gut/Cream in a Pure Aero. More muted and controllable. I always found in my APD's and PD's that gut/poly was prone to the occasional misguided missile. V/C will bring you a bit closer to the full poly experience, but hopefully with less arm risk.
1000% agree!!!
Now I have to see the durability...
But maybe my quest is ended and I finally found my graal!!!.... o_O:p:D

So played 2 weeks on this latest round of L/V. Probably one of the lighter 2 weeks of play I've had in a while. Strings are all over the place. I feel like I'm playing S-gut. My shots are still pretty good. But I think I'm lacking some spin, or I'm getting used to the power, or...*gulp* my strokes are improving. Whatever the case, I've been lazy and keeping the strings in play.

But now that sonny boy's HS season is over and I have to work on 2 of his racquets, I might throw my racquet in the mix. Or play with V/C for a bit. I recall the last time I played with V/C during a warm-up, I was getting a ton of spin and the balls were landing a bit shorter than usual. I've noticed lately that my volleys aren't as sharp as they were. Wondering if that is the lower DT I've been playing with L/V.

I'm curious to re-string with higher L and keep V low. All with good pre-stretch of course.

Has the gut worn the coating off the Velocity? That would be my biggest concern with Gut/V, is the abrasive nature of gut wearing down that coating and leaving the bed with less spin and string reconstitution. Origin is smoother so its a consistent string bed for a long time in my experience.

Yeah, lots of fraying. But gut isn't notched very much. Since the mains were out of place from day one, I don't think the coating wearing off is the biggest contributing factor.

L/V re-strung @ 58/53. 5x10s pre-stretch on each. Will see how it plays tomorrow morning. I have a practice match. Then I have a MXD USTA match on Sunday.

I don't know about origin being much slicker ... string-to-string o 16 .0077, v 17 .0083

That said, origin is a monofilament, and velocity is a multi ... maybe origin cross would hold up better against gut main. The problem is v would be better at taming the gut. @Traffic 's L/V @57/52 ... L/O @57/57? ... and would that still be snapback. Traffic should try it ... more snobby ... O $22. ;)

Edit: in my V1 Pro ... fb tonic @55 was fine ... for me tonic/origin @55/55 probably would be fine.

Strung 58/53 with 5x10sec pre-stretch. Stringbed feels a bit too firm for my taste. Volleys look better. Kick serves are kicking...when I get them in. Still have to work on those. Gotta swing 5% less as it seems accuracy has gone up, but ball absorption has gone down. Desperation shots going in better.

Are you all indoors now? I think bumping tension up a little indoors makes sense. We have been on quite a string journey ... it's been fun. You can tell we both pretty much found our strings. I kept swapping between my racquets today and thinking there is no need other than curiosity to try different strings ... they both feel and play great, and the elbow is happy.

I'm still dialing in that perfect tension. I seem to hit it here and there. Today, it's a bit firm. But the control is good. Obviously even with the firm feel, my elbow is safe. That's where I need to be so I can just focus on my own improvement.

Yes. Played indoors. Got a patch of sun in the afternoon. I was recovering from morning practice so I had sonny boy warm up my daughter before her group lesson. USTA 7.0 MXD tomorrow. My partner and I suffered our first loss. We are now 6-1. Hope that was a fluke with 2 sandbagging 3.5s playing 8.0 on us.

I was commenting about Origin vs Gut. Gut seems to have more texture and might wear off the V coating faster than Origin would wear off the V coating.

I tried Gut/O once thinking since it felt smooth it would be a good replacement for Poly in a hybrid. Unplayable. Zero spin except with the brushiest of strokes. And anything remotely flat was launched out of the courts. This was with my old PD. Full bed Origin was better than the hybrid if you can imagine.

Oh ... that makes sense, gut is tough which I did not expect before I played it. Interesting gut/o was low spin, on paper should have been great. Proves ... you never know for sure how two strings will react to each other.

Origin does not wear the v cross at all in my racquet. Origin mains will get it's initial notching a little sooner than v mains, but then it lasts longer. I assume that is because origin is solid core (not multi).

Yeah hybrids can be like that. O/V I found works nice together but V/RIP or RIP/V were also terrible like Gut/O.
I take TWU friction and stiffness ratings with a grain of salt. Many strings play softer and slipperier (totally not a word) than the ratings and vice versa. Real world vs Lab I guess.

Hey so I played Flights last night and I have to say, L/V feels and plays great. I wish my own play held out for the night. I sort of lost it in the last set. But I'm going to blame my partner for that. Even with pre-stretching a bunch, there is still just a touch of initial tension loss that happens over the first 3 hrs. I'm thinking the big loss was already stretched out. But there is still some small loss to be had. I should probably record my DT now... Need to re-load RT onto my new ipad. Broke my old one.

So my son injured his wrist when he fell going for an OH. He told me his wrist has a sore spot still today so I had him try his racquet (Pure Strike 16x19) strung with L/V that I was testing out. I can say his volleys were better and so were his touch shots. He could really shape his shots from baseline. He seemed to be a touch down on power and spin from baseline. But overall, he looked to have slightly more control than fb HyperG 18. He may have been holding back on taking full power cuts on the ball since it's not his regular setup. But I think until his wrist is healed, this is a great alternative to fb HG.

Well, he won't admit that his game was better at net. But he did play the whole group class on L/V. And after playing with it myself, I can say that the Pure Strike with L/V feels very comfortable.

@Traffic ... fyi ... TW $22 Luxilon gut. I have seen several comments saying it played similar to Legend.
I appreciate the heads up. I'll have to check my Christmas budget. I have a full pack of Legend in inventory so I won't need more gut until April. Spend $66 to save $18 though. Not bad.

Looks like only the 17g is still on sale. IMO ... the difference in Legend and Lux price wouldn't be enough reason to change unless Lux played much better. The other problem I would have is I have no interest in falling in love with a $44 string ... and that is what it will go back to. But ... Lux gut would give you a higher grade of "gut snob" ... image is everything. :p

I hear ya on the not wanting to get comfortable with $44 strings.
I get plenty of gut snob satisfaction right now. No one cares that I paid $28 instead of $44. No one asks me what brand of gut. Once you hit with gut, you are special.:p

I get told I am "special" ... but not as a compliment. I am going to get my satisfaction kind of opposite ... next spring plan on telling players "you just lost to someone 61 playing a $5 string in a f***ing Volkl". Oh ... I see what is causing those "special" comments directed my way.

The question in my mind is whether BBP would buy the Lux NG if it came in blue.
NG will last for decades if stored properly. Store them in cool, dark and dry conditions, like mushrooms. :giggle:

$22 and baby blue ... transaction would have already happened. I had almost talked myself into 3 sets, but 16g sale ended.

Have a 1/2 set of Legend uncoated. What would you guys recommend for the RF97 with Legend 1.30/Velocity 1.30. Use Gut/Poly at 59/56-57/54.
Frames are strung now at 55/53 OGSM/Velocity.

Are you pre-stretching gut?
58/53 would be a good starting point for L/V.
I string 57/52 with pre-stretched L and V.

If I select L/V as my goto, I probably need a non-NG setup for the wet months... I may have to re-visit Sheep/Velocity...

V/C is still a great setup. May end up being my backup since it was my #1 for a while.

I have Laserfibre Supreme 2 mains and Velocity crosses in my Yonex DR 98 at the moment. 53/50. It feels pretty good.

@Traffic could just add Laserfibre Supreme 2 and Babolat Origin to his Lux gut order. Let's grow his TW invoice ... this is fun. @esgee48 what would you like to add ... I could call TW for @Traffic.
Just ordered a couple Wilson Rush 2.5 shoes. Couldn't pass up the sale!! No more money to buy strings for a long long time. But then again, I have enough gut and Velocity for most of 2019.

I need some help...I've recently developed elbow pain and it migrates from being tennis elbow to golfers elbow, more the later lately. It started a few months ago when I began trying different string set-ups. Prior to my stringer going out of business this summer he was using a proprietary shaped string with Velocity and and I wasn't having any trouble. Since then I've tried different hybrids and currently using Klip Legend 16 and Yonex Poly Tour Pro 17 strung at 55-52 in Yonex Ezone DR98. I liked the Legend/YPTP a lot at first, great control and spin, but not getting the spin I was at first and most importantly the elbow pain is a problem. I play 2-3 times a week (total 4-6 hours); 4.0 with flat and spin serves and OHBH. After reading this thread I'm thinking I should try Legend/Velocity. Recommendations?

Stop playing for a while. I developed bad GE from the RF97A and I had to stop playing for about 6 weeks until it stopped aching. I tried hitting with my old racquets after a few weeks but it was still painful. It was worth waiting that long. Nothing can make that go away except rest for a while once it starts up.

I think @ByeByePoly said his arm can detect partial poly in his racquet. It seems once you've tango'd with poly, you need to stay off it. I've never had TE. But I've had GE symptoms. I think it rose from bad form. But playing with poly definitely does not help.

I've been playing with Velocity/Cream for the past week. Starting to really groove with it again. Probably the practice sessions with my son helping too. Like hitting with a ball machine only the ball machine doesn't feel like hitting winners if I hit a sitter.

In any case, I decided to hit with L/V again before closing out our hitting session. Ayeeee... I really, really had to pay attention to my strokes. One false move and the ball was all over the place. For my serves which I was nailing 1st and 2nd serves at will, I kept dumping into the net. I think my setup is really worn out. But I've been too busy to re-string V (crosses).

In short, L/V provides good control and comfort. I feel like V/C is a more forgiving setup. Lower launch angle, stays in play even with a slight miss-hit. Spin or flat and the ball just stays in play. L/V has great feel, control, a bit higher launch angle and typically a little better bite and spin. However, V will wear out and you can't tell visually. I'm sure L is doing fine. But I can't get the spin I normally do. But even with worn V, the stringbed is still more comfortable than V/C.

Yes, that’s a good prescription. Any thoughts between Legend/Velocity hybrid versus fb Legend or fb Velocity?

Not a fan of FB gut for anything other than comfort. Powerful and lacks a lot of spin potential due to string-to-string friction. Really needs to be strung at high tensions. Much better in a hybrid with any muted slippery string if you ask me.

FB Velocity is a nice muted moderate spin potential setup. Not as comfy as gut but more control. Velocity definitely works well on its own unless you are looking for more power. Then it can be the cross string in hybrid with gut or Origin to boost the power levels.

Alright. Update. Re-strung just Velocity cross. Ah, much better. Got my spin back.

Still, I after a good warm-up session with sonny boy, I can usually start to rip FH with V/C. But with L/V, I can't seem to do that. Just a bit too inconsistent. Moderately paced rally balls all day though. Better touch shots.

So I strung my sister's new racquet (Head Xtreme MP) with L/V. Pre-stretched both L and V and strung at 56/51. The report back was that it played too stiff (like ball was just bouncing off the racquet like a wooden paddle) initially. But after about 4hrs of play, she says she likes it. We'll see how she feels after another 4hrs.

I'm grooving better with V/C these days. And USTA season just kicked back in so gonna stick with this until there is an open court practice opportunity to try L/V again.

Just got a definitive answer for myself as to which Hybrid plays better "for me" in my Angell TC100 - much preferred my standby of Legend/Revolve that I strung this morning, better spin/feel and better spin makes control better as well, also felt more comfortable and reason for this is IMO that the strings slide/snapback way better. Somewhat surprised how much better this played for me vs Legend/V, I wanted to try V cross and that won't happen again

Sorry- I know this is an old thread, but just curious as whether or not you (or anyone else) has tried NG mains with velocity as a cross for a longer period and can compare to gut/poly? i really like gut/poly (legend/revolve @ 55/50 in gravity pro/tour) but after a while, the ball can launch on me on some shots. i end up re-stringing around this time, but just wondering if doing legend/velocity at higher tensions (i.e. 58/53) might give me similar playability to gut/poly.

I tried it. But not worth it imho. Gut will last way longer than Velocity. Velocity will lose its coating and then you won't get some of its properties while gut has a lot of life left.
For gut/poly, my son will break the gut in 10-15hrs of play. I maaaaaay break the gut in about a month or so. Typically I re-string after about 1.5mos as the poly is long dead and a lot of the smoothness is gone and gut doesn't slide on it as freely. Still plays fairly similar, but as soon as I re-string, I get a noticeable bite and comfort back.

My son plays 55/53 on 3rd gen Pure Strike (he's a 5.0) and I play on a Yonex Ezone 98 55/53 with gut/poly. I started my daughter on gut/poly (Legend/Proline2 @ 52/51) My sister (high 3.5) plays Head Extreme Legend/Cream @ 51/50.
