Legg Mason '09 pictures/videos/blog thread

If you get to the court early, you will be rewarded! On the grandstand was the one and only Fernando Gonzales, practicing shirtless! *score*

I think quite a few players do what you see Wayne doing...reviewing some reminders/game plan before the match. I don't think Andreev was affected...but couldn't say for sure...when I was watching, Igor was well in control. It wasn't until after I left that WO starting to come back. He is very scrappy (and yes, a lefty), and he grinds opponents out.

I actually forgot to mention...I talked to John Isner's dad (behind me in the beer line). He made a comment on Odesnik coming back in his match, and mentioned that you just can never count him out. He said John and Wayne have played each other a lot, both in juniors, and now four times on tour...and they are 2-2 head to head in the pros. He said every time they played it was a struggle for John, and a looong match. I can attest to that...one of the best matches I ever saw at LM was between Odesnik and Isner (the year Isner went to the final), and of course, it was one of Isner's third set tiebreak wins.

thx for the feedback and for the excellent reporting, which really helped get us over the hump/bridge the gap where atp failed us!

looks as tho you had excellent seats for the hewitt/delpo match ....... got one last question for you: I know there's quite the size discrepancy between those two, but a lot of people remark about "how big" JMdP seems: Did he look big from where you sat?

is JCF the perfect tennis in action model or what? He's wearing Lotto from the top of his headband to the bottoms of his shoes!

JMdP is very, very tall yes...and looks it even though I was sitting in the highest row.

LG, if you click on my profile and check out the threads I've made, you'll find lots of JMdP pics from last year's LM as well, in case you're interested.

^^^Heh, heh, oh, noooo problem!

Though, he snubbed me when I was in line to get my picture taken with him.

:( :(

I'm sorry to hear that. Other reports I've read say he's good with fans. Maybe he was in a hurry...Anyway-great pictures. Ranier S approached the net? Didn't think today's players knew how to do that!! ha ha ha (I used to love watching Arantxa S.V. run to the net and back)

A Brush With Fernando

I also went to Legg Mason, but I watched different stuff than Topaz. I was mostly interested in Fernando Gonzalez. Got to watch his match from the side, at the baseline, three rows up. Man, he is amazing! Funny thing, though. He missed a lot of BHs. He wasn't running around his BH as much as usual, and he almost always sliced it when he hit it. He needs to clean that up before the US Open, for sure.

Anyway, I saw something kind of weird. Odesnick and Gonzalez warmed up. Then they each left the court in the company of an escort and apparently went to the player's locker room. Why, do you think? Mandatory drug test? If so, why not test them *before* they come out to warm up. Bizarre.

So Gonzalez wins easily, and we head over to the concession area and they announce that Gonzalez will be signing autographs soon. I go to the Olympus booth -- you know, where you can pose for a pic with a gigantic racket. There's no line, so I pose for the pic. And people kept walking in front of the lady as she tried to take my pic. She finally gets it all set, and yet another guy walks through the shot! He sees he is disrupting the pic, and he backpedals and gives me an apologetic look.

It was Gonzalez.

Now, anyone with a brain would have smiled and asked him to step into the pic really quick, right?

I lack a brain, apparently, because instead I said: "You can go ahead" and waved him on.

Thereby costing myself a photo with Gonzo I could have posted here for you guys. Doh!!

^that stinks! Well I'm sure Fernando was happy that you didn't yell his name and start screaming like a crazy fan girl.

Screaming and squealing? Nah, not my style. A simple "Dude, you messed up my picture. Come over here and help me fix it!" would have done it.
