Let's clear the seeding system up, example inside

A few years ago I argue that the men's seeding system favor Sampras or the the fours. It's NOT EXACTLY 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6 , 4 vs 5, but it's NOT RANDOM either. It is '1 or 2 vs 15 or 16'. 1 can only be drawn to 15 or 16, not any one from 9-16. If 1 is drawn to 16, then 2 MUST BE playing 15, vice versa.

Threrefore, Sampras (no.1) had a way easier match at the 4th round facing the 15 or 16, while some like Krajicek, Rudeski (7,8,9 or 10) battling out each other in the same round.

The women had a far less rigid system, in a 4th round, anyone from 1-8 can be drawn to anyone from 9-16

Fair or not, depend on your views. Do you think no 9 deserve a better draw than no. 16? By this way, he is as he don't have to face the no. 1 until the qtr, while the no.16 will face no. 1 or 2 in the 4th round. However, some argue that both 9 and 16 are in the 'same chunk' of seed, it depend on whether the seeds are divided by 4 or 8.

I'm not too sure how the system work with 32 seeds, random or rigid to some degree. I don't think I saw a no. 1 vs no. 17 in a 3rd round, but always see no. 1 vs 31 or 32, maybe it's still the old way
