Let's Gather All Grip Specs (Weight & Thickness) Into One Thread

According to this the head finest calfskin is thinner than babolat skin feel, 1.2mm vs 1.5.. Always thought the calfskin would be thicker.. Great thread very helpful

I just bought a Prince Textreme Tour 100p in 5/8, but it's still too small with an over grip. I think it would take like two tourna grips to fit right. Instead, what would be the thickest tacky over grip I could use? Otherwise, I guess I could put on a thicker base grip. I don't like heat sleeves.

I've found Volkl Super Perf and Super Grip II to be on the thicker side.

I unwrapped the stock grip of my new Donnay Pro One Tri, I see it listed as 9 g. Mine was 11 g, I didn't measure thickness, but it is a very thin base grip. Donnay have named it "Cushion"...

Great stuff here. I am looking to buy some leather grips for a couple different brands of frames. As such, I was interested in knowing which grips are stamped with branding or logos like Babolat and Wilson, and which are void of markings like the TW leather and Tourna leather. I was thinking this thread could compile that info as well as grips with "neutral" markings like Fairway leather.

Anyway, are there any other unmarked leather grips I could buy besides TW and Tourna?

News Flash!!

I've just received a couple of new Prince ResiThin replacement grips and they are now being marketed on the packaging as being 1.4mm thick.

Anyone have the weight and thickness on the Volkl V-dry overgrip. I tried the search feature to see if anyone posted anything but couldn’t find

Babolat Leather Black, Dry & Thin is the best I've used.
Great hand feeling, only one (synthetic or natural) that has endured the friction of the wheels for at least one class.

I realized it was a bit off topic so the package says 27g/0.95oz weight, 1.65mm/0.06in thick

Just bought and weighed two new grips on my Grip3 Prostaff 85/90, happy to contribute again to your great list, ChicagoJack.

Babolat Skin Feel
Untrimmed 17g
Trimmed 14g
Thickness 1.55mm (as per Babolat packaging)

Head Synthetic Leather
Untrimmed 20g
Trimmed 15g
Thickness 1.75mm (as per Head packaging)

Hi everybody

Anybody know the trimmed weight of an Angell leathergrip?

I have a black one on my TC97 but it feels a bit harsh on my wrist.

I'll probably will have to take it off and go with a synthetic grip (Prince, ...) but I need to match weights as I don't want to throw off the balance of the racket...cause that one is right where I need it :)

Thanks for any feedback.

@ChicagoJack - Thx for this thread. This has been helpful to me in the past.

I removed Yonex DR98's stock grip named Yonex Synthetic, weight is 9g w/ finishing tape on L2 grip size. I guessed that why the stock grip is so light is that there's no adhesive tape attached to the stock grip unlike most grip, but the adhesive/glue is separate and looks like they paint the glue on the handle then slapped the stock grip.

Wilson shock shield replacement grip untrimmed 26 grams, trimmed 23 grams L2 grip
Angell leather trimmed for L2 grip 18 grams.

Wilson FeatherThin after being installed on a L4 Prince Response 97. Oscillates between 8 and 9g quite frequently.

What is the stock grip on Yonex Vcore Duel G 330 and 310?
how much do they weigh?

The one I stripped off my DR98 weight around 9-10 grams (this would be trimmed weight I guess) with a thickness of about 1.25mm measured with a digital caliper squeezed all the way to pressing the grip down then let it push the caliper back.

Kimony Leather grip weights 14-15g untrimmed and no double sided tape with 1mm thickness with the same method with digital caliper.

How thick is it?
No clue. But I can tell you that it is so thin and light that it is difficult to install because it has a tendency to rip/break when you pull too hard on it. I can't imagine any synthetic grip being as thin and light because of that. It maintains some softness/cushion (it is not firm and dense like leather), but it is very relative to its thickness. You can feel the hardness of the bevels very well.

Wilson Feather Thin 1.40 mm

I've just received a couple of new Prince ResiThin replacement grips and they are now being marketed on the packaging as being 1.4mm thick.

I just swapped out a prince 1.5mm leather grip with a ResiThin and the ResiThin feels a bit thicker. I am assuming over the next few weeks it'll form to the bevels? Anything I can do to speed up the process?

Synth grips stretch and compress more. You could wrap an overgrip tightly around it, but it will compress down and settle in after a few hours play.

Do we have the data for stock grips on different racquet models and years? If we had that information aswell it would help a lot to decide on which replacement grips and over gripst to purchase regarding the thickness and weight comparison and calculations.

Babolat Syntec Feel has changed, the one I received from TW yesterday is 1.8 mm and 15.5 g according to the description on the back...ordered it specifically because it was supposed to be 2.0 mm

Compared to skin feel which is fantastic. 1.55 mm thick and smooth textured which is perfect for no riffing with an overgrip. How does prince resi thin compare ? What's it's thickness ? And does it ridge?

found this on the " Bonjour from Babolat " Thread...these specs were provided by Babolat Official

Syntec Feel:
weight: 17.5 grams
thickness: 2mm
-perforated/tacky
-very good absorption

Skin Feel:
weight: 16.6 grams
thickness: 1.55mm
-smooth/tacky
-above average absorption

Syntec Pro:
weight: 17.4 grams
thickness: 1.9mm
-smooth/tacky
-very good absorption

Leather:
weight: 24 grams
thickness: 1.7mm
-leather/dry
-below average absorption

I'm assuming that these specs are based on untrimmed grips. And that they may end up weighing less when installed.

Guys what is the difference i weight between the normal brown wislon leather grip and the new black one? Thanks!

I just bought a Tourna Genuine Leather replacement grip. It weighs 25g uninstalled, 23g installed, and is 1.5mm thick.

I was wondering about this one. Its not yet on the list or im blind.
Also thinking of getting one and try it too. although I heavily use tourna grip or Wilson Pro overgrips depending on the weather conditions.

Installed weight of Wilson Synthetic leather grip (L3) on ps97 -> 16.0 grams

Hi ChicagoJack,
I've gone through quite a few rackets & replacement grips in the past few years.
I have some data for some replacement grips & thought I'd share in case you'd like to add it to the 1st page (I've used this list extensively myself - thanks for compiling it)

I hope it helps out anyone wondering what the weights of the installed grips may run.

These are all synthetic replacement grips:

Untrimmed Wilson feather thin grip: 10 gm
Untrimmed Gamma Hi Tech replacement grip: 22 gm

Trimmed Wilson Featherthin replacement grip: 8 gm on a Wilson Nblade 98 L3

Trimmed Wilson Hydrofeel synthetic replacement grip: 19 gm on 2011 Wilson Blx blade 98 L3

Hi all,

Here is my note on grip spec:
1. Yonex base grip: 1,6 mm, 12 gram on Yonex Ezone DR Lite 4 3/8
2. Wilson Cushion Aire Classic Perforated: 2mm, 16 gram on Yonex Ezone DR Lite 4 3/8. Side note: Installing 2mm base grip changes the grip size of Yonex Ezone Dr Lite into 4 1/2 (one size bigger).

sorry if the information is on this thread.. i couldn't find it using search..

does anyone have the specs for Luxilon Elite Dry Overgrip ( weight.. thickness) thanks!

2.6 - 0.6mm ... Yonex Wave Grap
What in heavens name is up with such a variance in thickness? How can it differ by as much as 2mm in thickness? Are they saying it depends on how much you stretch it while wrapping?

Tourna Leather Grip: 28 gm untrimmed before application and with adhesive protector
23 gm trimmed

Technifibre Overlast OG: 12 gm untrimmed unused
11 gm trimmed

That's interesting to note. I put some lead tape on the wood so that extra adhesive on the handle won't help. That is interesting because I find it hard to replace this particular grip without changing the size or weight. I now use Wilson feather thin.

Hi all,

Here is my note on grip spec:
1. Yonex base grip: 1,6 mm, 12 gram on Yonex Ezone DR Lite 4 3/8
2. Wilson Cushion Aire Classic Perforated: 2mm, 16 gram on Yonex Ezone DR Lite 4 3/8. Side note: Installing 2mm base grip changes the grip size of Yonex Ezone Dr Lite into 4 1/2 (one size bigger).

Thanks for providing this. I know it's late but this is particularly helpful for me. I have the 285g yonex dr ezone 98 and always found it hard to find replacements!

Luxilon Elite Dry Overgrip
Weight untrimmed: 4.5g
Tape: .5g
Thickness: 0.6mm (My calipers do not have greater specificity)

I have 3 Yonex Ai98's and have replaced the stock grips with Gamma Hi-Tech replacement grips. I did this to increase the grip size. I bought the racquets used with 4 3/8 but prefer 4 1/2.

I think this has added too much weight to the racquets for me. Is there a replacement grip recommended to increase grip size without adding much weight? This is a difficult proposition considering the stock Yonex grip is about 11 grams. Any suggestions?

Thanks, CK

I actually used Prince Resi-soft on my Duel G 330's and they ended up being lighter than the stock grip. They are one of the thickest replacement grips at 2.2mm.
