Let's take a moment to pay some respect to Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner gave it his all and fought until the end against Rune when he did not have to. In fact, he could have deliberately lost this match to eliminate Djokovic, the favourite player to win the tournament, but no, he instead chose the champion's path and tried his best in this match, even if it meant keeping Djokovic alive in the tournament. This, to me, is a display of true sportsmanship and courage.

No matter whose fan we are, I think we should all seriously respect Sinner for his heroic efforts.
 
Sinner deserves all the respect, but this could backfire heavily. You don't want this man back in the tournament after he was almost out of it:

The guy is an utter, utter moron for doing that - and not just doing that but doing it in a long match as well which will tire him out more. Didn't he twinge his back as well? Djoker def. Sinner in the final is pretty much a guarantee now lol, but I agree that he deserves respect for it in a way. A bit like Djoker going to the limit vs Medvedev last year even though it was a dead rubber and could only harm him going forward

That is all the more reason as to why Sinner deserves a lot of respect! He was genuine in his efforts and showed no fear of facing the toughest challenges on his path to victory.
If this were Nadal, he would most likely have thrown the match and claimed "oh I was injured", but Jannik Sinner fought through a long and gruelling match to earn his victory.
Also, looking at the Darth Vader reference (I am a big Star Wars fan), one could say "Sinner did not act like Palpatine when he fought Mace Windu in Revenge of the Sith" lol

Hmm, since 2015 he won only one time, that time being where Thiem completely disappeared, Zverev was injured and Medvedev was struggling to find himself.

Let's not exaggerate! You make it sound like it's Djokovic, who was 1-2 in the group and required miracle of the math applied in order to advance into the semis! It's not Novak's fault he found himself in a situation such as this one! He won 2 out of 3 matches, which in most normal circumstances would advance such a player from the 2nd position in a group, but because of some dark sorcerery involved Novak had to hope Sinner wins his match today!...It isn't called "saving someone's ass" it is called "order restored and justice prevailed..." I'm still concerned about Novak's chances to win the title here, but at least now i won't mind if he loses, because he reightfuly claimed his place in the semis...

I don't know about you guys, but for me, Sinner has earned my respect. And for the first time in many years, I actually want someone other than Djokovic or Federer (both of whom I am a fan) to win the ATP Finals.
For me, regardless of my Fedovic bias, Sinner truly deserves this title.

We all know that Nadal does not like Djokovic at all. So his match against Medvedev in 2019 cannot be compared to this situation because by losing the match, he was not knocking Djokovic out (against whom he has not taken a set on hard courts since 2013). On the other hand, in this case, Sinner was. I am just saying that if Nadal were in this very same position as Sinner, he would have tanked the match, no doubt.

Just as much as Medvedev does, or Zverev does, or Novak does or heck even Alcaraz does!...Every one of them deserves to win the title equally, Sinner ain't special!...
 
I'd be incredibly happy if I bought tickets to the match.

But objectively from a tennis standpoint the guy is an idiot for doing that.

I make it sound like Sinner saved his ass, because Djoker's spot in the SF depended on Sinner winning. Not sure what there is to debate, or why it even bothers you that I bring that up.

I debate not the fact itself, that Novak's place in the semis depended on Sinner winning, but the tone you chose to express it, usually when someone says "saved someone's ass" it makes it sound condescending towards the person in a sense, that he didn't deserve to be in position he found himself in, but got lucky! Novak didn't "get lucky", he EARNED his place in the semis by winning 2 matches out of 3, like any other player in normal circumstances would!...

Big wow. Sinner knew how pathetic it would look to tank a match in order to eliminate Djokovic. It's known that the players are scared of Nole in BO5, so they have to keep up a brave face against him in BO3.

TRUE, but IMO, Rune deserves some credit too for playing so well after losing a one sided first set, due to Skinner's great play.

Rune certainly deserves credit, but he had a massive incentive to fight hard for it. Sinner really didn't need to risk his body, but he still put on a heck of a show.

It would be the last match of the year, Novak will find a way if he makes the final. He thrives with the pressure on him and crowd against him.

This has nothing to do with merit or fairness, I merely stated a fact. Sinner saved Djoker's ass.
 
Maybe he will get rewarded by Djokovic losing in the semifinal to Medvedev or Alcaraz - on these fast courts in Bestof3, it is tough to break serve which negates one of Djokovic’s core strengths and anything can happen. Djokovic has won this tournament only once recently while young big-serving guys like Zverev (twice), Medvedev and Tsitsipas have also won in recent years. If Djokovic plays Sinner again in the final, it might be tough to win against the GOAT twice in one week.

Sinner first has to win his semifinal and that is probably going to be a tough match too.

Well, doesn't this imply that it was even in his mind to do such as thing as tank to send Djo home? We don't know that. All we know is that he played to win.
