Lets talk asterisks with 2020 USO and FO

The tournaments will only bei played If all players will BE able show Up. It is not like this will be an all American US Open ore Something. It will be the best of the world playing on normal courts unser normal rules. So I fail to see the asterix argument. If certain players don t show up, than that IS their personal decision.

If the tournament does not attract the normal Slam-like draw then it will inevitably be asterisked. Just look at the way the AOs of the 70s and early 80s are dismissed as worthless because they did not attract enough top players. Top players are essential to make any Slam or any of the big tournaments look respectable.

I don't think they have it if they can't confirm 90 percent of the draw.

LOL US only that be great. So the finals will be John Isner vs Taylor Fritz. Am sure some random youtube video will have more views that day than the broadcast.

Jan Kodes won WImbledon in 1973. I don't hear much talk about the ATP boycott that year that resulted in 12 of the 16 seeds being absent, as well as 81 others in the men's draw who chose not to play. Asterisks are printed with ink that fades.
Yeah, but you know what else we don't hear much talk about? Jan Kodes.

The asterisk is "always already" embedded into how we remember (or don't remember) him, I think.

It should be canceled it's pathetic they are even considering it specially the RG, That's not even played anywhere near September.

Its all about the cash grab. Wimbledon doesnt need it they cashed in on their insurance. But holding w 75% of the players may lift spirits if anything just a show that we can get back to normal one day.

We used to hear a lot about Kodes - there was a poster called Kiki who was obsessed with him.

But you're right in general, he's not really considered when we talk about the 3-time slam champs.

There are no asterisks in tennis. Whoever wins these slams, wins 'em.
Now that maybe half the top 100 will play you still think this will be a legit slam and when people see Jack Sock US Open singles winner in ten years you would say that he had a better career since has one more Slam than say a Nishikori?

Honestly would LOVE to see the ****storm on here if Nadal wins US Open and 20 grand slams to tie the record...followed by winning the French Open and 21 grand slams to beat the record.

Guaranteed the saltiness on here would fill an ocean.

Definitely have * like 70s early 80s AO, 73 Wim, FO without Borg and Connors. Early 2000s finals. USO clay, etc.
Nothing is clean cut.

It would be great to see it happen. I really hope they figure out a way to run the leadup tournaments safely enough for the majors to happen, and that New York has stabilised to the point that an event of this magnitude can happen.

The odds are kind of stacked against Nadal with this. Of the top contenders, he has seemed the most cautious about returning to tennis if things aren't right, and his playing methodolgies will take a big knock in the changed conditions. Who knows how he is going to feel about playing?

With that said, I can definitely picture it happening. We all know this is just the type of incredible Clay / HC double that Nadal has made a habit of doing in the second half of his career. He is just so good at holding an insanely high level for a long time in adverse and changing playing conditions.

When THREE grand slams were played on grass, giving dominant players THREE opportunities to win on the same surface: OMG the good old days

When Nadal wins on clay off ONE opportunity in 12 different years: OMG clay skew

When people won AO with an even weaker field: it's a slam fair and square

When someone wins USO FO 2020: OMG asterisk

Even goalposts get tired dude
