Level 5 USTA points limit

My kid played a USTA level 5 and won the tournament. I was told he gets points from the wins and that leads to a ranking. Level 5 seems to be somewhat easy to score points. Is there a limit to how many points he can collect from level 5? Seems like he can just keep playing level 5 and those points can easily take him to a top 5 ranking in his age and section. He only played UTRs so far and wanted to play USTA because a couple of his friends from his club were playing.

It is only your kids top 6 results in a shifting by current date back year long window and taking down level 5s is not going to get your kid very far in the rankings if that is a target/objective.

Wins at level 5s will help in entry to higher level events which ultimately could lead to wins which will lead to entry into higher level events and better competition for your child and success there will supplant those level 5 wins.

Moreover, events are now looking at WTN for entry requirements and beating up on weaker players is not going to improve your player WTN and ability to enter higher level events.

Thanks. So no matter how many tournaments he plays, they only take the top 6 tournament points, and since lower level tournaments (1,2,3,4) are more points, kids play those to get higher in rankings? Do they get higher points playing in the next age category at same level?

Yes that is the idea. You will find it is an endless game of collecting points at a particular level so you can play in the higher levels.

Nope playing up doesn't help with points. It does help with other things if it is appropriate for your kid to do so.

I would characterize my son as having been a lower level player in the top level of kids if that makes sense and our approach was to play up in level 5s and 4s and play his age in the higher levels.

The best of the best were playing up for all of them. Other kids just seemed to play their age division knowing they would struggle to make higher level events until they were close to aging out of that division.

Only caveat is doubles points which contributes to your ranking, you only apply half of what you earn on the combine points, and it’s separate from the 6 tournament rule.

For combined points correct but tell me what you mean by separate from the 6 tournament rule. This is news to me.
