Leylah top three in world

Can they not just wait and see. She has one title. She has played the most insane tournament and looks amazing and a future great.

BUT we've seen this before and the player goes nowhere. No need to build such unnecessary hype on the youngster.
Read what I wrote. She made NO predictions.
This is not a prediction thread.

In before she falls off a proverbial cliff and never wins a tournament again. Seen it happen all the time in the womens game. Different winners for everything, no consistency from anyone.

This may be the consistency for some such as Naomi are self-absorbed but it also may be the dramatic variety of new blood popping up every now and then. I'd love to see that in the ATP too.

She’s saying she’s top 3 in the world. She’s not. She’s ranked #73 and has done next to nothing before this tournament. To declare one tournament makes someone top 3 is stupid and puts unneeded pressure.

In the first post, it says "for tennis instincts". I don't know how to compare, BUT one can see how amazing her feel for the game is.

I may be wrong but I think Chris Everet has said that, not Leylah. So, I really don't know about that "stupid". Oh, and it is about that instinct, I think.

Tennis media has messed up so many young ones with this.

Donald Young is the biggest name coming to mind for this.

And what does that cryptic phrase mean, exactly? "Leylah top three in the world" doesn't need explanation. It's a prediction.

Is that your best damage control? If I were you, I'd just say-sorry guys, I misread the thread. But this "of course"?
Huh? Damage control? Where did I say Leylah said any of that? I literally said I wish they (being Evert) wouldn't overhype the youngster. Think you've misread me mate.

This is 2021. The ranking does not only reflect this year. Leylah is a newcomer and in last few months she has demonstrated exactly what she is told to have been now, not then.
She lost 2-6 2-6 to Alison Riske 3 weeks ago?
And she lost to Harriet Dart 5-7 6-7 the week before that.....

How refreshing Leylah is, so positive, appreciative of her adopted country and all the opportunities it has given her and her family. She's very mature for someone who turned 19 just a few days ago and has a lot of support from her family and friends. The sponsors will be lining up for her, she will be the female Roger Federer as far as representing her sport in a positive light.

I agree with everything you said, but think that Emma - if she wants it - will really have them lined up. I love both, but Emma is so mature, articulate, beautiful, gracious. Amazing what they are both doing!

You really have been burned before. I get it, all the ngbs in ATP have ruined me. However, I haven't been this excited since Bouchard and I never liked her personality.

Hope I don't get burned again. But I also don't expect her to take the tour by storm but think she can have a halep type career or slightly better

Canada is a most welcoming country, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Dunno how she's defining "instinct." Of the top of my head though I would say Krejcikova, Bencic, Hsieh are better if we are talking game sense.

I'd agree - very welcoming. Then again that's easy for me to say given the number of weekend jaunts taken there...

Must be just a hop, skip and a step away for you as well to have made such a definitive, declarative statement .........
.......btw, what are you again, 10,000 miles?....12,000 miles away??....

"Hello Operator?.....hello?..........hello?....."

For tennis instincts.
According to one of the most authoritative women in the sport,
Chris Evert.
A woman who won 18 singles slam titles.
For tennis 'instincts' ? What's that to mean??

We know Chrissy won 18 GS's.......but Ms. Fernandez is not #3. If she wins the US Open she will still not be #3, she will be ranked #18 I believe.

If you're referring to a prognostication of Ms. Evert that's an entirely different discussion.

Come Sunday, she will be new world champion beating the fake Canadian.
Go Fernandez
