Lifespan of a PS 6.0 85

I've often heard some players say that after a certain amount of use, their racquets go "dead." What is technically meant by this? Some sort of breakdown of the materials inside? How does a dead racquet play?

Also, to the PS 6.0 85 users out there: how much use did you get out of your 85's before replacing them? I've been hitting with the same two 85's for about a year and a half, playing on average 3-4 times a week. I'm not a racquet abuser, but they definitely have their share of court rash from competitive play. I was thinking about getting a couple new ones, but was just curious about how much play other 85 users have gotten out of their racquets.

Thanks in advance.

The PS original is a strange racquet, and once it goes dead it feel horrible. I think because the racquet is so thin, when the stiffness in the graphite decreases the offcentre shots just have no power, as the raquet torques like crazy, more than any other racquet.

As for mine, I had 2 pro staffs for about 2 years, pretty heavy usage 3-4 times a week, before I got a new pair. I was much happier with the new racquets, and I could notice a big difference in stiffness, the new ones were much more responsive and predictable, but then my wrist couldnt take it so I switched to the prestige, haha.

Minor rant about the ps original, its really stiff (to the point where it hurts my wrist). It break string like nobody's business, and the paintjob wears off very quickly...

actually the pro staffs are pretty far from what id call stiff, there are numerous reasons your wrist could have had problems and usually it is not the racquets fault.

and all of you seem to forget ALL racquets break down and lose stiffness greatly. this isnt something unique to the pro staffs by any means what so ever. the only gripe ive ever had with the pro staffs, is the tendency of them to break under heavy heavy use. by this i mean tightly strung at 70+ lbs and use of at least 4 times a week. ive been through 5 busted staffs personally.

I personally found that older Wilson Pro Staff's have a longer lifespan than most other brands. My old Head racquets like the Prestige were really bad in terms of lifespan. After a few years they warped in the head and turned into noodles.
