We talk about moral victories drenched in irony all the time on these boards, but anyone here have some actual moral matches to share where the loser:
losses moral victories I mean
- had a prexisting condition (injury, fatigue, etc) that would have posed a major roadblock to winning the match that they ultimate lost; and
- despite #1, played to to the best of their abilities and went down fighting?
- 2017 US Open SF - Nadal v Del Potro: Delpo comes back from 2-0 in sets down against Thiem with a flu, beats Federer in the QF, then finally gets pummelled by Nadal in the SF, but only taking the first set playing some fantastic tennis.
- 2011 Roland Garros F - Nadal v Federer: Federer beats God-mode Djokovic in one of the all time greatest four-setters in the SF, and is then (predictably) beaten by Nadal in the final. Federer still manages to take a set, and it could have been at least two sets had he not missed that drop shot in the first set.
