List of rackets that can be capped/ capping guide

Not yet, I'm waiting for the inevitable poster who says it can't be done and I'm making it up. Then I might have to post pics. Until then the time dial-up takes to upload will be motivation enough to refrain.

Umm... OK, here goes.

It can't be done... you're making it up!

Post the pics, now.

Looks good Aggro! Fun CAPping those LM Radicals, huh?

What is the weight and balance of the LM Radical Tour with the CAP grommets installed?

It should be about 12.8 oz. and 3 pts. HL. That's a beast considering an overgrip and dampener will put it over 13 oz.

Haven't had a chance to weigh them yet but yea its a pretty meaty racquet. Was just experimenting with them as i wanted to look after my racquets :p i strung it with topspin CF and syn gut @ 55 and its just to underpowered atm. I'm yet to decide whether im going to try lower tensions or just take them off altogether (i kept 3 with normal grommets).

Have to say though - Serve and my 2HBH with the capped version is a beast !! Just a bit of trouble with volleys and my forehand for some reason - a lot less head manouvrability me thinks.

Awesome sticks tho !!

has anyone ever tried capping a redondo mid, just out of curiosity? :)

Better yet, someone ought to try CAP'ing a Wilson T-2000. Head's gotta have a racket with the same mains X crosses pattern! And I bet they hit oh so really buttery solid when fitted with a full-length bumper.

:-?

I don't think it would work because the head shape isn't the same as the prestige mid altogether and I don't know about the string pattern either.

But it sure is a great idea. I think that would add a little swingweight and give that racquet the plow through it misses and maybe even fix the problem of that strange flex it has on serves that seems to hold back the ball.

BTW, has anyone felt a difference in the CAP versions. Especially the iPrestige, which has the bottom grommets without CAPs, does it have a difference in feel?

IMO the i Prestige grommets have a "cheaper/harder/more brittle" feel to them and they are lighter. The older CAP's are heavier and softer. The LM version are also heavier and a bit softer than the i ones.
Don't know about Microgels ... I have not yet played with the MG Prestige...just the Radical.

they come to 11.6 oz each, 3 are czechs, and 2 are chinas

AGGRO I WANT THAT I RADICAL

Which leather grip did you use? With a Wilson Leather grip, Head Vib, Yonex SuperGrap overgrip and MG Prestige Grommets I am at 341 g or 12.03 oz. Yours are 11.6 oz so about 329 g. What did I do. Sounds kinda heavy to me!

i use MG Prestige grommets
Babolat leather grip
Sampras O
Yonex Super Grap

all of mine are around the same weight
are you just using one?
if you got it used there might be lead under the grip or in the butt cap
if not then im not too sure what is up with it

I bought them used but, I know the guy that I bought them from well and I know he didnt modify them at all. I just converted one so far. If it goes well then I have two more. Could the grip weigh that much more? I dont know. I will give it a go in a day or two and see how she plays. How much did yours weigh originally? Mine were about 318g with Vib, and Tourna grip.

Okay I take it all back. Actual weight is 330 grams. The other number was calculated. Although I dont know why it was so high. Were you able to get all the grommets all the way in like the original? I have a few that are a bit shorter or not all the way in?

Tubing was used for only two grommets. Minimal modification is required.

i was able to get all of mine all the way in

Shoot I am just not that patient! When I cut out this set of strings do you think I will be able to fix them or are they screwed up forever?
did you heat them up, on the i prestige ones i didnt heat them up and they didn't go through all the way, after is tarted using blow dryer and getting the grommets mor flexible i was able to get everything in, also an awl is completely neccessary

aggro how does the capped irad play?

They are very nice, for people who can handle a little extra weight in the head. I personally had lead from 11 - 1 as well and i still found this comfortable to swing with.

Problem is i can't relate it to another racquet the feeling was that unique, give it a try and see how you like it :p

I did use a blow dryer to heat them up. Just a couple of them no matter how hard I pushed and guided with awl would go in all the way.

Hey guys I just recently CAP'ed my LM radical but before I CAP'ed it I forgot to weigh out the CAP grommets. Does anyone know the weight of CAP grommets so I can get a general idea of how much lead to add to the handle to counter balance all the weight? Much appreciated :) btw I used the MG Prestige MP grommets

Were you able to get all the grommets pushed through? I have a few that are barely sticking out. Although I am a bit mechanically challenged.

yea I have a few that are barely sticking out myself MagPro. I think its the ridges from the liquidmetal but I'm not to sure, either way I just heated the grommets and most of them went through

hmm that's wierd,, all of my flexpoint and liquidmetal grommets seem to go through fully
is it possible that grommets from different sites are also different?

I'm thinking about capping this Head Radical Twin Tube. What grommets(cap) would fit best for this racquet?

I wouldn't cap the Radical TT. It already has a fairly high SW (340-ish). Unless you're capable of playing with a 350+ SW, you're going to be very surprised.

Image is everything!

Who cares about playability?!

It's all about image!
