"Little guy" with the best serve

The players famous for their serves are all very tall or at least taller than average. Karlovic, Isner, Querrey, and Raonic are all above 6'5". Even guys like Sampras and Roddick were above six foot.

Who, among players below 5'11", do you think has the best serve?

Rios was only around 5'7" -5'8" and his second serve was never a Liability. Pretty underated server IMO. He could bang it as well (not that thats what makes great serving). His second serve had some nasty lefty slice and would stay very low (partly due to his height I gather)

Lavers serve was exceptional and probably the best as he could do a lot of different things with it.

Lots of other good servers for short guys in terms of power (Grosjean,Johansson, etc.) but the two I mention above were good because the second serves were very difficult to attack. Most of the more recent short servers were rather predictable.

Scotty Draper had a very good serve before his wife died. After that I didnt see him play much. Pretty sad story that was.

Once into the 5'11" territory I would have to go with McEnroe (who had one of the all time serves in his prime). I think McEroe claims he is 6' though.

Current Crop: Almagro & Berankis

I know equipment has evolved since many of those listed played but 130+ MPH is very impressive for these two sub-6-footers. In the past, Roscoe Tanner was not a towering giant but his serve was big enough to snap a net wire once at the USO.

Amended Rating: Tanner

I googled Tanner to find his listed height. ATP stat shows 6'0" but I met him several years after his retirement at a Head demo day and he wasn't taller than me (5'10").

From the smaller guys grosjean and rios certainly had a good serve.

1,80m and above guys like tipsarevic and johansson I wouldn't consider little.

Ferrer is listed as 5' 9"

Benjamin Becker can really bang it, I think he's about 5'10", maybe 5'11"

Also, Me. Lol. JK. But yesterday I went out and played some doubles with Addiction in my Radical MP, and in one of my service games I hit 3 aces.. and they were definitely the biggest serves I've ever hit (including those with a Pure Drive)

All that with a stock MG Radical MP, I couldn't believe it.

John McEnroe is listed at 5'11" tall and he had a great serve.

Lew Hoad was listed at the same height and some said his serve was among the most powerful ever.

Actually, Rios is 5'9".
I've met him, I'm 5'9" too. We were even in height.

I don't know where those smaller numbers came from; maybe they were earlier measurements before his 20s and he hadn't fully developed.
But he's 5'9" now.

Maybe your not 5"9" either.

Just kidding.

Seriously though. Tennis players are really bad at honesty when it comes to height. Its kind of like women and weight. Kinda funny.
