I wouldnt worry too much adout JMDP based on this. Grass is not his surface at all. He still could do very well on the hard court season coming up. Federer and Rafa caliber players dont come around everyday. It might be a very long before the next one emerges. I suspect mens tennis will be alot more open to many different winners once those two are done winning after 2012 or so.

dont u think that in the grand slams this year so far it has been about the older players stepping up. i mean djo and murray didnt make it to any semis did they?

Yeah,it's quite an amazing logic.I was actually asked to tend to my Fed altar or some similar BS from some poster here because I dared to suggest that Fed wasn't "lucky" for avoiding Djokovic and especially Murray at the FO(who got bageled by Gonzo)as I felt Fed would have beaten either of them at FO this year.Some posters here really do have some twisted logic and will find a way to put an asterisk on anything Fed accomplishes.

I'm dissappointed. I wanted JMDP to reach the semis after the way he played at the FO. Poor chap. Not his day I guess.

Hewitt was just a bit too good. I think Hewitt plays better on grass than on other surfaces. The low bounce suits his shots, his serve and his shots shoot through a bit more and he gets a bit more value for his returns. He rallied well and moved del Potro a bit and also returned well.

After watching this match some thoughts
1) It's grass and Del Potro did struggle on some of the lower balls
2) Compared to how focused he looked and how well he served against Federer in the FO, today his serving was no where near as good.
3) The above two can affect confidence negatively.
4) His FO performance was a big effort on his part. Yeah Nadal had done this and that by age 20 but Del Potro has matured quite yet.
For now I'm leaning towards thinking Del Potro doesn't like grass.

Yes hes not as good on grass as on hard courts. The grass hurrys him up a bit on his return of serve and he misfires a bit. He struggles a bit more with his return and with his movement/balance on wide shots/low skimming shots on grass.Also Hewitt returned his big hard serves well all match when he got his racket on the ball and made Del Potro play a lot.
Del Potro still has a lot of developing to do. He's a ball hitter more than a tennis player.The lack of versatility hurt him a bit on the grass.

Even IF it directly translates to "of the toilet", so what? You say it violates the terms of service? Which clause?um ....... no; it is an insult which means toilet, but since you stuck your nose in, i'm forced to ask ....... attend the dumb-em-down govt. schools much? if you knew what "del" means (of the), then you would know that the word following the article "the" w/b a noun, not an adjective; but the meanings you suggested are for adjectives, not nouns!

I highly doubt "toilet" is one of the "Big 7" dirty words.
First off, this rule is for board member interaction, as in no personal attacks or abusive language from one board member to another board member. Even if you misinterpret it as no personal attacks or abusive language allowed towards players, calling someone "of the toilet" hardly qualifies as such.
Once again, you're the only person that seems to have such a hangup over the name "del Potty", which is written in jest. It's not written because the person is even insinuating del Potro sucks or is "of the toilet" (whatever that is even supposed to mean), but because it's a catchy malapropism. It's like calling Hewitt "Hewy" or something like that. Just because "potty" happens to have a possibly negative connotation doesn't mean it was intended or even relevant, and I highly doubt any moderator would see it your way either.

Hewitt really returned serve well today, better than I can remember recently. I didn't think JMDP really served that bad but Hewitt was on top of his game, almost a flashback to his younger days when we would give big servers fits on a regular basis. Towards the end it also looked like DP was going for too much on his groundstrokes and missing, and he went for broke on too many returns and missed.

Wow. Hoped for Hewitt in 4 but the odds were against him on paper. I thought that when he beat Rafa in straights at the exhibition, we saw something interesting happening. 14 aces against DP. Today's win suggests that Rafa losing to Hewitt on grass was not that crazy as it seemed a week ago ... We'll see how far he goes. He must feel confident.

LOL I'm in that group as well,I thought that Delpo would beat Hewitt.However I'm glad I was wrong,love to see the Aussie vet showing new kids a thing or two on how to play on grass.
I still think Delpo is going deep at USO though,he's a threat on clay and HC.He just hasn't been able to adjust to grass yet.

i'm still on the bandwagon. i had hoped for better for delpo, himself, but the fact is that grass is his worst surface and he did not play any grass tournaments on the run up to wimbledon.
plus this was delpo's first time on centre court, whereas rocky's been here before and is a past champion.
plus rocky had a group of professional cheerleaders in the crowd with matching shirts, hats, etc., tho i must admit that most of the audience were very fair.
plus delpo slipped on the grass more than once and had to call the trainer (first time i've ever seen him do that) to wrap the left knee.
the good thing, imo, is that he won't lose any points, since he went out in the second round both of his previous times here at wimby.
hewitt, otoh, has played wimby 10 times in the past, so experience is on hewitt's side.
i'm sorry for delpo, because i assume he had higher hopes for himself, but i'm happy for rusty that his hip is feeling almost back to normal again. he did play brilliantly, and i wish him well in his future matches here!

I just did a search and old threads say he uses the rdis 100 mid(93). Though the rdis seems a bit light compared to his old racket.

That's a good thing. You shouldn't be happy if you go out. Juan Martin is a young guy and has got all the time in the world to get his act together on grasscourts. He had a tough draw and might go deeper next year around.
