Hi, my name is Danielle.
I am sort of new to the boards, I've been lurking around, reading posts, but I don't really post that much. I'm in USTA Eastern Southern section, played league for a couple of years, love tennis, looking to improve and have a good time basically, as I am sure most, if not all of you, are as well.
The reason why I'm writing is that my doubles partner and I, also a league and tournament player, we also double as tournament directors for our own tournaments. We have put on 3 very successful ones, and looking to plan others in the future. Our target participants are, essentially, adult recreational players that love competition and love tennis.
We are looking for two things, more players. We recently ran a USTA compete in the parks series (unofficially cause we're not yet an organization) and had over 86 doubles teams in a round robin format. It was huge, it was fun, everyone competed all weekend, all day, both days. 86 teams was up from the 60 we had the prior year, our first event. We did combined levels of 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 womens and mixed, and then we added a 9.0 mens. We are never done recruiting, WE WANT MORE PLAYERS! We want you guys! If you are in the Eastern southern, or eastern metro, or don't mind taking a drive from Long Island or CT, we are right in Westchester.
The second thing we are looking for is sponsorship. We want to make it bigger and better without charging our participants a high entry fee. Our first event was 15 dollars per person per event, you could do single sex and/or mixed in the same weekend, spending 30 dollars for both events. Cheap for a tournament if I do say so myself. this year is was up to 20. We don't want to really go past 30 but we want to offer more, shirts, raffles, huge lunches, amazing facilities, all of that. We don't discriminate, we welcome all ages, ability levels, backgrounds. We want tennis players! I've been trying to get ahold of Head, Wilson, Prince, as some names for the event, tennis names for tennis events. I'm not having that much luck. But also, pro shops and small businesses that wouldn't mind throwing out a few dollars for a grassroots community tennis event in exchange for their name being thrown around in the tennis world.
I know teaching pros are sometimes sponsored by racket companies, is that true of anyone on this board? Maybe they could throw out a phone number or something? Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone has numbers for some tennis companies, sponsor and representation departments and can pass them this way, or they themselves own a small business and are willing to hear more about what my partner and I are looking to accomplish, please please please email me at dcarr11@gmail.com or reply to this post. I have a completed portfolio to send out to anyone interested. It takes tennis players to make more tennis players and make tennis events successful. That's all we want to do, and we need you guys.
Thanks so much for your time,
Danielle
