Delicious tears.

Reading all these threads the past 3-4 years after every GS, all the 'Hate/Choke" Andy Murray" Thread topics, etc... "he'll never win the BIG ONE", he'll never beat Top Fderer or Top Nole, etc.."....

Then in 2012, he crushes #1 Federer on Grass for Olympic Gold, giving serving Federer HIS MOST lopsided and humilating defeat of his career, no other player had destroyed Federer like that, ever.... as #1 GOAT, and dispatches and out-gruels Djokovic 2.0 on hard Courts, to wih the U.S. Open etc....

and STILL, all the Murray Haters come out protecting their beloved Nole and Federer and Nadal players (laughs) Delicious!!

So Andy wins his FIRST GS, but NOW that's not good enough...nope... now it's, "well, he won't win another GS, etc...or he'll be a one GS Wonder", etc... Haters can't stand the scrappy young kid from Scottland just smoked the top players in the WORLD the past month, and dismissed all the naysayers once and for all...

Haters gonna hate... Murray 2.0 has the last laugh. :) :)

Many of us were happy to see Murray win his first slam. Check the congratulatory threads. Same for when Murray won the OG Gold.

Please. Try being a Nadal fan on here. You got it easy.

Really ? Tell us about it. I am sure I can get all my fellow Federer fans to side with you guys. Who is troubling you nice chaps ? The Nole fans ? United we stand, as they say.

I'm like the hugest Fed fan and I'm actually happy 4 Murray ..

there's a big line between disliking a player's style of play "which I hate most in case of Murray and see it a potential threat to the whole sport" and wishing him the best ..

Huh? Many are happy just to see another face at the top...the Fedal days have hopefully run their course and the discussion will become much more balanced on these boards.

...ROFL just listening to myself!

You'd have to be a pretty stupid Nadal fan to begrudge Murray his success.

I'm a Nadal fan, and I've been rooting for Murray all summer. Murray has been helping protect Nadal's legacy while he's been injured. Stopping Federer from winning the coveted Career Golden Slam at the Olympics (which only Nadal and Agassi have on the male player side) prevented Federer from achieving something Nadal has done. Which is a good thing, for a Nadal fan.

I was actually disappointed when Murray lost Wimbledon to Federer, because it makes it harder for Nadal to catch Fed in slam totals.

It's also a good thing for a Nadal fan when Djokovic loses a grand slam final, because he can potentially reach Nadal's current total of 11. The less slams Djokovic wins from now on, the better Nadal's legacy looks.

All that aside, Murray is a stand-up guy, who works hard and deserves all the successs he gets. Even if he wasn't helping out Nadal by beating his main career rivals, I'd still be happy for him.

Nadal says he's injured, Nadal fans says he's injured.
Nadal says he is healthy, Nadal fans say he is healthy.

Using this respective pattern, why don't Nadal fans practice what they preach and look to see what Nadal sent Murray after his US Open win.. (via text/BBM whatever)

Just enjoy it, I’m very happy for you. You deserved it.

Wow. Nadal, possibly Murray's biggest headache on the tour (who robbed him of a couple slam finals) texts Murray to say that. Pretty humble stuff, you fans need to belt up.

What's with all this "protecting legacy" stuff I read on here? Are most of you all glory hunters that only want certain stats "be protected" for your favorite player?

Well...yes.

I wouldn't call it glory hunting either. I was a fan of Nadal from before he'd won much at all. i supported him when everyone was calling him a one dimensional ball bashing, moonballing grinder. If I was a glory hunter, I'd have been a Federer fan, because he was being gushed over as a genius right from the start. I think Nadal may be the greatest player ever. I backed him from the beginning. His warrior style and his indomitable will appeal to me.

But if I'm going to keep arguing or making a case for Nadal being the greatest ever, or the best of his generation, the reality is, that stats are a neccesary evil. Head to Head numbers, slam totals etc...all these things matter. I can hardly say Nadal is the best tennis player ever if Djokovic ends up having a superior head to head and an equal or superior slam total. We are not children, and we don't have to pretend these things don't matter. This is sport. Most people who support high level professional sport want whomever they back to have better stats than their rivals. Pretending to be ashamed of that is just childish.
