It's been 8 years since they last won a World Series. Their bitter enemies, the Red Sox, have won 2 titles in that span. Heck the MARLINS have won a WS more recent than them and they did it on a $50 million payroll. Not only have they not won in 8 years, they're in 3rd place behind Boston and the DEVIL RAYS, a team that has never had a winning season until now. No playoffs for the Yankees, this time. We'll miss their annual playoff meltdowns though.

I don't know the final numbers, but I estimate the Yankees have spent close to $1.5 BILLION on player payroll since the 2000 season. No Torre and with George letting Hank run things, it's going to be a bumpy ride for the Yankees. The team is old, slow, and way overpaid. The Yankee Empire has fallen... Order has been partly restored.

The Red Sox only got 19 more titles to go to catch the yanks.

All thosde years of spending and trading on the big name Free Agent/ hired gun is catchin up to them. They got nothin ready in the Minor leagues and anybody good is gettin locked up by other teams long term.

Also whats really funny is that The Rays afford who they got because of revenue sharing.

Not a great year for the Yankees, but predictions for the future are pointless because they have the money to reinvent themselves almost every year, an unfortunate aspect of baseball competition but felicitous for New York. Prices for seats in the new stadium have been tripled and they are going fast. Care to sit field level near the infield? That'll be $875, $3450 if you're bringing the wife and two kids.

Cant stand their whining fans.They think its their birthright to be in the playoffs each year.They have so many bandwagon fans.I am glad they are gonna be missing the playoffs this year.I hope they keep spending money and it blows right in their face!!
