Ironically the smallest of the 20+ streaks was the best for Federer , after losing 2008 Wimb and 2009 AO.

Clearly Federer is the better player. Lets see if Nadal can manage a 20+ win streak at 30+.

Noo... Nadal has to run into Nole damn near ever tournament he enters. Fed got to avoid his achilees Heel Nadal much during 2004-2006 than Nadal gets to avoid Nole

Did Sampras ever had a 20+ winning streak?

What does it matter any way? Who the hell remembers "winning streaks" when people are discussing greatness for a player? And does anyone use a winning streak as a barometer of greatness at the end of the day?

Its:

Titles won
Slams won
Time at #1
Overrall domination of era
Head-2-Head of main rivals
Strength or weakness in eras etc.

No one is going to remember someone's unbeaten streak from January 2XXXX-June 2XXX

etc..

Federer leads in 4 of the 5. The last one is highly subjective.

Yet, you crapped Federer to start the thread.

Had to put some things into perspective. That goes under the little "Nadal has it tougher" scenario with constantly having to deal with current Nole who is BETTER than anyone Fed dealt with in 2004-2007. That undeniable, truth and FACT

I didn't know Nadal had so many 20+ match winning streaks,

Watch the pattern - most of his streaks are in April-May-June-July. And he has 8 Monte Carlo, 7 Rome and 8 French Open. So its quite natural for him to have streaks since those tournaments are played back to back. If he could reach 3rd round in Wimbledon this past 2 yrs, he could have had 1 or 2 more streaks.

Nadal was no 2 in the world in May 2005, but anyway..

Nadal has had one advantage that Federer didn't. When Federer was a successful 24/25 year old winning all his titles, he suddenly found himself with not one but two world class young talents snapping at his heels. Very quickly, his whole perspective had to change. He had to almost re-examine his game.

Nadal has not had that problem. He's not far off 28 now, and there's still no sign of the next generation coming through to give him new challenges like what Fed had to contend with. It's just the same status quo, and will possibly be like that right through until the likes of Nadal and Djokovic are over 30.

Neutralizes any weak era argument from 2004-05.

Nadal has the benefit of playing in the weakest clay era of all time. What's all that hard about getting 4-5 free titles each year?

Exactly, at least Federer beat grass court specialists in Roddick, Hewitt and Murray for 5 of his 7 Wimbledon titles. Who was Nadal beating for his RG titles? A grass court specialist and now a hard court specialist. I can't recall him ever beating a single clay courter for any of his french open titles.

Federer met Nadal 6 times in 2006 and 5 times in 2007. As many times as Nadal has met Djokovic this year. Nadal has entered 14 (?) tournaments this year and met Nadal 5 times, he's not met him in 9 of them.

So basically every part of your post is wrong.

I especially love this segment of the post.

OK sorry, I couldn't help myself.

What were Sampras's streaks ?

He has the grass but other than that, I don't see any. Sampras wasn't as dominant or consistent as other great players.

Most consecutive matches won at one Grand Slam event:
1. Björn Borg (Wimbledon), 41
2. Roger Federer (Wimbledon), 40(41 if not for walk-over in 2007)
= Roger Federer (US Open), 40
4. Pete Sampras (Wimbledon), 31
= Rafael Nadal (French Open), 31

Nadal's 32 match streak in 2008 was over 3 surfaces as well (M1000 Hamburg, French Open, Queen's Club, Wimby, M1000 Canada). Made it to the semis of Cincy and semis of the USO, then won Gold in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing (on Hardcourts). That was an amazing run
