The Baylor match is massive!
the sky is blue. got anything else you wanna point out Johnny Meatballs
Ah, really like his deneanor on court. Big serve too.
Have run into him in Waco, Tulsa, Plantation, K-Zoo and Carson.
Damico was there, not sure if that was Ed Corrie or his brother David, who lives in Austin and used to be a regular at the UT matches when Ed was playing.
Baylor is not ready for what the Longhorns will bring to Waco tomorrow. Book it.
I'll be at the match. I'm heading up to Dallas for a project, so might as well stop in Waco on the way.
Denton1 and others tapped into the college tennis scene in tx:
Question: is texas really known for cheating? I mean, is that real ... or is 'hook'em horns" just a rallying cry?
It is a flawed system, and the home team hires the usta linesmen...so is the cheating at ut like most teams....where every team has a couple of djerkwads who know which lines to do it so the umpire does not overrule?
Baylor vs Texas tomorrow:
Doubles is a slight Texas lean with a stronger #1 team and the ability to pull out either 1 or 2.
1: Pradella vs Hess-Olesen - Pradella won 6-4 6-2 last year but Soren is a better player this year. I expect a 3 setter here, should be a great match. Pradella to win in 3.
2: Lenz vs Glasspool - Glasspool won last year in two tiebreaks. This year I expect Lenz to take in in 2 sets.
3: Galeano vs Berkowicz - Tough one to read. Berkowicz has the type of game to offset a heavy topspin baselined like Galeano, so I will go with Berkowicz here.
4: Lupieri vs Goldhoff - Lupieri in better form and in front of a hostel crowd I have to go with Lupier here.
5: Zsiga vs Naumann - Zsiga in 2
6: Dornbusch vs Homs - This will be a great match. Two very strong #6 players. Homs has not lost a dual match all season and Dornbusch is ranked and has some nice wins. I predict Homs in classic 3 set Homs style.
Baylor 4-3 it looks like with the decider probably being at #1.
i would bet on Baylor
i think they are tougher from 1 to 6 on the whole
doubles, #1 and #2 singles are the most important spots, could go either ways
1: Pradella will take it in 2 with his form right now, thought tightly contested sets.
2. Lenz all the way. Glasspool progresses a lot from last year, but Lenz is just a different level from what I can tell.
3. Berkowicz in 3
4. Luprieri does not have the kind of power to hit Goldhoff off the court. If the Texas freshman plays with the right mind, he should be able to pull this off.
5. Zsiga will be tough for anyone to beat at 5.
6. This one is hard to call, it will be close.
The wind is whipping in Waco right now.
Super good tennis facility they have here. First video board that I've seen that actually shows moving graphics.
Lot more intensity from Baylor in doubles, crowd large and helping. Texas will need to bring it in singles early.
Got some videos yesterday. Will post them later tonight.
Thanks Clemson !
The wifi in this hotel is struggling and I need that for high def. was able to get only one up so far
Berkowicz vs Galeano
What time did this match even start? Looked late to be finishing a first set...
Started at 6. Doubles ended around 7. So this video was taken around 8:15-8:30 or so. Long first set
Typical Center team. Not showing up with the Big 12 championship on the line. Not a good omen heading into tournament time. Need to smash Texas Tech.
Horns on the way to a shutout of Tech
VV = Zero value-add.
Check his posts.
some more videos:
Zsiga defeating Goldhoff to clinch also you can see Soren clinching the win over Pradella in the distance briefly.
SHO vs Pradella 1st set tiebreak points
Galeano breaks Berkowicz down 3-5. Saves two set points
If Texas gets Baylor again in the Big 12 tourney they will need to get doubles. They came out very flat in doubles in Waco but can correct that. That could turn the tide. Berkowicz can certainly beat Galeano, I think he was a bit rattled by the crowd at different points which allowed Diego to hang around, Berkowicz actually was jawing with some Baylor fans in the 2nd set. It will be tough for Soren to duplicate his great effort vs Pradella though so Texas will need Homs to beat Dornbusch in round 2.
Wonder what the tiebreak is to determine who gets the 1 and 2 seeds at the conference tournament since Texas, Baylor, and Oklahoma will all finish 4-1 in conference play.
3 players were beaten easily which I was disappointed with. I don't know what is going on with Goldhoff.
No Glasspool in today's Texas lineup vs OU. Anyone know why?
Team mentally already in the NCAAs. Hopefully they can make a good run there.
what does everyone think of Texas's chances of advancing out of their own region? I am down on the team a bit. I hope they can regroup for the tournament. And I hope Glasspool has gotten over his ailment.
I'd be surprised if they didn't shutout both Marist and Miss State. I think they match up pretty well with A&M as well - should they meet in the Round of 16. A Texas/USC quarterfinal would be a good one too.
I have them losing to Cal in the rd. of 16. Join the Bracket Challenge. http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=462683
I like the way this man thinks. Cal is very dangerous. Quarterfinals here we come then we will see what's going on.
Texas vs Mississippi State tomorrow. I think Texas wins 4-2.
I think you guys win 4-0. I don't see where Miss State would get 2 points unless they take dubs and maybe beat Goldhoff.
Crowd is miniscule
Miss State up a break on 3 and 2. They are being scrappy and look like they are here to win. Let's see how long it can last in this heat. (It's 90 full sun and no wind)
Berkowicz with some truly awful returns to bail out Lakat who served out two double faults when serving for it. Doubles to Miss State
Naumann not playing. That's a blow for Texas. He's walking around and yelling. Not sure why he's not playing
Too easy for Texas
Miss St. often loses the dubs. Not a good sign at the moment for the Horns.
Refresh it. Texas won with zero sweat. I thought Miss State would dig deeper
I'm going to stop commentating now and just go back to watching the UofM Illini match. LOL
Easy match. Boring to be honest. After doubles Mississippi State had no momentum at all anywhere. They led 5-3 on court 6 briefly and that was it. They wasted a lot of energy pumping themselves up with yelling and antics. There was no hiccups for the Top 4 for Texas. Good win for Goldhoff.
Clemson_tennis - thanks for the updates and reports. I am surprised particularly by #3 dubs unable to do any damage. Any thoughts on that pairing?
You've spoiled us with vids for the last few matches you have attended. Any chance you have any from this one? Thx.
Oh my goodness what a glorious tennis weekend. Texas destroys Mississippi State pretenders and then A&M chokes like crazy at home. Poor Denton. He has a dreadful tournament resume.
chances vs Cal now??? Elite 8 possible? How do u rate the matchups between Texas and Cal in singles and doubles?
This is how it went down at the ITA indoor in February:
1. #53 Søren Hess-Olesen (UT) def. #62 Ben McLachlan (CAL) 6-2, 6-3
2. #29 Lloyd Glasspool (UT) def. #68 Campbell Johnson (CAL) 6-2, 6-3
3. Filip Bergevi (CAL) def. George Goldhoff (UT) 6-2, 6-2
4. Adrien Berkowicz (UT) def. #118 Andre Goransson (CAL) 6-4, 6-5 (7-3)
5. Nick Naumann (UT) def. Gregory Bayane (CAL) 6-5 (7-3), 6-4
6. David Holiner (UT) vs. Mads Engsted (CAL) 2-6, 6-4, 0-1, unfinished
1. Ben McLachlan/Andre Goransson (CAL) def. #7 Søren Hess-Olesen/Lloyd Glasspool (UT) 6-3
2. Gregory Bayane/Chase Melton (CAL) def. Nick Naumann/George Goldhoff (UT) 6-5 (7-1)
3. David Holiner/Jacoby Lewis (UT) vs. Filip Bergevi/Campbell Johnson (CAL) 4-5, unfinished
Unfortunately, dubs is not this Texas team's strong suit, so that point likely to Cal again.
My guess would be 1,5 and 6 go to UT.
2,3,4 are tough calls, with Berk 3 and Goldhoff 4 this time around. #2 for Cal looks to be improved, and Glass is not at the top of his game currently.
Hows that sound?
I got one video of miss state taking doubles. I didn't take any in singles though. I should have taken a couple.
Holiner and Lewis are a wildly inconsistent team. They can both have periods of poor play. Holiner sometimes loses his ability to serve and Lewis shanks a lot of groundstrokes. However if they are playing good they are a power team and often finish rallies with slams at the net. Lewis has a powerful serve and can bomb it at times. Pretty good team for #3. Their matches are almost always close
I think that the earlier match vs Cal is almost completely irrelevant. It was indoor, almost 3 months ago with the no ad-scoring. The matchups at 1 and 2 will be the same but the others will be different than last time as well. If Naumann plays then the matchup at #5 will be the same as well. 3,4 and 6 will be unique matchups. It will be a close one. Cal is playing well and if they take doubles then they can certainly win.
Clemson - Just wondering, have you seen Michael Riechmann practice yet? I have no idea how good he is but considering he played #1 at Brown. Do you think he's good enough to play the #5 or #6 spot?
Question to Vik or anyone else can jump in-- do you have any idea how Texas will look for the fall? Stronger? Weaker? The Big12 is not my territory. Just was curious to see thoughts on this. Thanks
