I ended up going to watch the matc vs. Tulane, when I got there It was looking pretty bleak. However, Telles and Banzer both pulled out improbable victories, with Banzer surviving multiple match points, probably one of the most exciting college matches I've been to, even if we had to watch it at a second rate public tennis center !

    Doubles – Order of Finish: 2, 3, 1

1 No. 70 Sebastian Rey/Chi-Shan Jao (Tulane) def. No. 76 George Goldhoff/Leonardo Telles (UT), 6-4

2 Tyler Schick/Ewan Moore (Tulane) def. Christian Sigsgaard/Julian Zlobinsky (UT), 6-3

3 Yuya Ito/Harrison Scott (UT) def. Constantin Schmitz/Luis Erlenbusch (Tulane), 6-4

    Singles – Order of Finish: 3, 1, 4, 2, 5, 6

1 No. 18 Constantin Schmitz (Tulane) def. No. 25 Christian Sigsgaard (UT), 6-4, 6-3

Ah. So... You are THE Indian man. And if i go, i would just recognize you on the basis of nationality, just like that? Yeah, uhm, like a nationality is a description? So racist, dood. That triggered me and now i need a safe space. Right after i finish up here in the cry room, where i am checking my "slightly off-white" privilege.

Kidding. Just lampooning college kids, so like yeah, basically germane to this thread.

Atatu, i know you're a UT Austin guy. Why do you dislike Baylor so much? Longtime thing or last year's scandal? Uh oh. I am triggered again. Back to the ...sniff aniff...
    Cry room.

I do live in Austin but I'm not a UT grad and generally find the UT fans (football) to be a little much, but I support the tennis team. My dislike of Baylor stems from the recent scandals and how Starr and Briles handled it, but also the behavior of the Baylor fans at the tennis matches here the past few years. Some drunk co-ed threw up all over my shoes a couple of years ago. I just find the whole "Christian" thing to be not genuine.

Wonder what happened to Juan Benitez. Guy started the year strong, guess that jackass with an arm sling wore him down.

So glad UT beat Baylor..Tech fan but Hook Em!

I'm excited for the new tennis facility to be completed at UT. I wonder if it will have an impact on recruiting.

It can't have been easy competing as a nomadic team with no real home courts so to speak.

I'd also like to see the UIL state championships rotate back to Austin rather than at College Station.

I thought I might revive this thread before the Spring 2018 tennis season.

Any thoughts on the Longhorn men’s prospects for the coming year.

It looks like the Horns will finally have their new home facility available. Hopefully, that’ll mean an uptick in their results this year.

    Hook em

No, that link is screwy, you have to click over to see the rest of the draw. Telles beat Scott in the QFs, a Baylor player in the final.

I guess he was a lucky loser. I can't see a lot of info, born in Rome but based in Austin. I doubt he is playing for Texas somehow.

Even without him they could have done much more. I believe their lineup was: goldhoff, scott, ortiz, banzer, reichmann and zlobinsky/mee, but 100% Liam would have made a difference.

I hear that Texas is getting a Brand new stadium and fascility this year...... they should also go aggressively after the Asian talents as well. There are ton of great talents that would make great college players in Asia like china, philipines, and Japan. With new stadium and good academics, Texas can be seen as attractive option for these guys

If you haven't checked you should go to their twitter account. their new locker rooms are looking incredible. I'd say the best in the country. I think it would be realistic to say they will win NCAA title within next 4 years.

Maybe, but not this year. Stanford is way too strong for any team this year. they should go thru the season undefeated. it wouldn't surprise me

Let's be honest about something here. Fawcett wouldn't play no.1 for majority of the teams in SEC for example... He does not have a chance with guys like Borges, Hansson, Kypson/Rinderknech, Ponwith/Montgomery, Osama etc... And for the freshie Geller, we'll see how good he is once the season starts and he actually plays tennis while studying at STANFORD.

Geller is ITF #1 player, that means he is pretty much Professional level. Did you see how well Yibing Wu is doing on the tour right now, he almost took out Ferrer. and Geller was right there with him and really could have beaten him in US open Junior final last year. Guys like Kypson and Borges would get Blown out by Ferrer, 2 and 1. and Fawcett now has ton of Challenger level experience in the pro tour and he played those pros real close. He is now ready to dominate the NCAA guys at #2 spot.

and you did know that Kypson looked really Weak in the futures last week in LA, right ? Kypson is still just a child and not ready to play with Big boys yet..........

Was a scrappy player from Newk’s in the Jr.s. He went to Texas for a year then left and continued his Jr elegibility (I believe he won the Spring ITF in Carson)...then he turned pro...this is the first I’ve heard of him since.

He wasn't at UT for a year, just a couple of months, not sure what happened but it's too bad he didn't stick around for awhile.

Well Newk's coaching staff taught little Liam well!
I saw one of their academy kids at a national open brandish the hashtag Newkie for life!

    Everyone loves that place.

Yeah, come to think of it he was there in the Fall and was won the Carson ITF the next Spring....I remember when he won Texas Sectionals over Aarron Pierce, while rocking the UT hat. Me being a Longhorn Alum, I took note. Lol

Word is he and Center knocked heads.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. Speaking of former Newks guys who went to UT but didn't stick around, Michael Venus is doing pretty well in dubs these days.

Does anyone have any current pictures of the finished product? I know the
Venus transferred to LSU I believe. I used to live down the road from Newks a few years ago. I wanted to join the country club but it was a little pricey...o_O:p

Sounds like an intense tennis parent. Wonder if the dad is a tennis guy (former player or coach)?
Caruana, i think, is a Siciliano name.

    Not that Sicilians are intense.
    Uhm.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

His Dad is a coach, and was coaching at Newk’s when Liam was there...he appeared to be pretty laid back when I knew him...he used to pal around with Fritz’s dad at the ITF’s, and the both of them were pretty easy going...even when their sons were in court.
