Looking for a powerful Poly

I am looking for a more powerful poly to try out. I am a 4.5 Player and currently use Kirschbaum Spiky Shark 17 in a full bed. I have been hitting with a few different sticks lately (Head YT Extreme Pro & Head YT Prestige Pro) and am in the process of deciding which one I want to use going foreward.

I would like to continue to use a full poly set up due to string breakage. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Polystar Energy, Black Magic, ALU, and most soft co-polys IMO will be pretty powerful if you drop the tension a little.

Big Hitter Blue Rough...I wasn't a believer until I tried it. Fantastic string if you're looking for spinny and powerful. I was looking for a little less power and more consistent response off the string bed so I went with the Silver Rough.

TripleB

Is BHBR really THAT powerful of a poly? I'm planning to string it at 50M/47C on a PB10 Mid and was warned that it would be way too powerful.

Does it hold tension though? I tried the egular Big Hitter Blue and though it was soft and powerful, after less than 6 hours, the tension just fell out of the string similar to Polystar Energy.

It stretches alot more than most polys during stringing, and then it looses tension about average for a poly.

That's because the PB10 is really polarized in terms of its weight distribution, as a result of which, the head comes through the arc of the swing pretty quick. If you find a BHBR17 strung PB10 it too powerful, you can try using a 16 gauge, or upping the tension by another 10%. Just to give you a comparison, I string BHBR17 at 55-56lbs CP in a 6.1 95/18x20 but in my view, its a slightly slower swinging, different feeling racquet to the PB10. BHBR is a great string, but you need to get the setup right for your circumstances. Try it and see. The string only costs something like $8 a set.

I think this is a good point. The 17 gauge is supposed to be livelier per TW's description. I just bought some 16 gauge BHBR hoping it is less powerful/springy than the descriptions I've heard about the 17 gauge. Anyone have some experience with this?

I'm really liking SPPP Pure at LOW tension at the moment. Easy power, soft feel but not flying as much as I thought it would in a 4D500T

Thanks for all the feedback. I will give some of the strings mentioned a try.

One question- Does anyone know where the Spiky Shark i currently use would rate on the power spectrum?

Big T- My winter/fall season starts soon and im leaning towards the Extreme Pro. I love the Prestige Pro, but if Im not able to hit off the front foot with it my ball is not that heavy and i get into trouble. Its a lot easier for me to get pace and depth from an open stance on the Extreme.

ALL poly strings are low powered strings. If you want more power, try these:

1. lower your tension in 2 lbs increments until you get to the proper power level that still provides control; for all poly stringbed, something in the 40-52 lb range will proably work. Also, string your poly crosses 2 lbs below mains.
2. Put a 16g syn gut in cross to give the stringbed a bit more spring. String syn gut +4 lbs higher than poly. Get a durable 16G syn gut and combine it with a 17G poly.
3. In conjunction with 1. or 2. above, try adding some head weight at 3/9 o'clock and a bit at noon to increase SW. A little more mass in the head will provide easy power on almost all rackets.

Thanks for the feedback, I have added tape to my frames and I will see how it goes. I just picked up all my rackets from the stringer, but next time I will try some different tensions. I would use a synthetic, but i dont have my own machine and it gets too time consuming and expensive as the strings break a lot faster. I hope to get a Neos 1000 in the next few months and then ill switch to a hybrid.

Big Hitter Blue is the most powerful poly I've used out of the 30 or so I've tried. The most powerful setup I've hit with was Big Hitter Blue mains and Global Natural Gut regular color uncoated crosses. I strung it at 58/60 in a prestige mid. Black5Edge and Tour Bite offer a little less power, although it's more than adequate, and my balls land heavy and deep.

In the WC family, TurboTwist 1.18 was the liveliest from my experience, more so than SS, B5E, or Scorp. Haven't tried Mosbite.

I purchased a pack of the BHBR. It is a relatively inexpensive string so it would be great if I liked it. Ill report back when I string it up.
