Looking for a soft poly to compliment my sore shoulder and my Volkl C10 Pro

I'm using multis now, but I'm getting too much power on my strokes, however I love the feel. I use a Volkl C10 Pro which is good for my shoulder, however I think I need a VERY soft poly to reign in some of the racket's power. I was looking at Isospeed Cream and Tourna Big Hitter Blue as some options.

Before I buy, I'd like to get everyone's opinion...

Thanks!

momentarily i use velocity/cream in a dr 98 (i play normally with gut/poly in lm radical).
this combination is worth a try: relatively low powered, enough spin and good control.

What multi are you using? Seems like you might want to get past the soreness before any poly, even Cream.

Use LTEC Flex synthetic gut as a cross string with nearly any good Poly in a higher gauge and I think you will find what you are looking for. More control and spin than multi and good feel and comfort at the same time.

I've used the C10 for about ten years and I agree that it can be a rather powerful instrument. When I want to have a good, hard slug with a strong hitting partner or use my most powerful option for some singles, I'll use a C10. I'm now 51 and I probably love this racquet for giving me such a great combo of big gun performance along with superlative comfort. Most anything else through recent history has been some sort of compromise for me.

But I do agree that the C10 is a string sensitive racquet. Multifiber can play nice and soft, but this frame is already a cozy beast with its inherent "hoop flex". I have tried a multi in my C10's at least once or twice, but that string type usually softens at a steady rate after installation and eventually turns too soft for me before it breaks down.

I've also sampled a few poly hybrids in my C10's in recent years at various tensions, but the poly just plays too dead and clunky feeling for my taste. The hybrid that was easiest for me to relate to was Isospeed Baseline 1.20mm mains and Gosen OGSM crosses, both tensioned at 48 or 50 lbs. This light gauge of poly gave me better feel than most heavier gauges I tried and it seemed to offer a mild bump in the control department. The downside was that it seemed to turn the corner and go dead after only a few uses.

I love good ol' synthetic gut. I string at home and the reels I've been buying lately are Kirschbaum's standard (not premium) syn. gut in 16 and 17 gauge. Although the lighter gauge isn't quite so durable (no biggie for me), I love its feel and performance. I might switch to the heavier 16 ga. alternative in the middle of the summer heat, but otherwise I get everything I want (including moderate softness) with the 17 ga. syn. gut tensioned anywhere from 54 lbs. at this time of year up to 58 or 59 lbs. when it's warmer outside. Certainly not exotic stuff, but this string has been unbeatable for me.

Big Hitter Black 7 is very comfortable. Topspin Cyber Flash 17 has even smoother touch, but is a little more rough on the arm (still comfy for a poly!)
The softest poly I have ever hit is Gosen Sidewinder.

Good luck!

I have tried a lot and for a soft feel I keep coming back to Dunlop Black Widow. Isospeed Baseline is another softy to try. Neither has a long playability life both are quite comfortable and you can't beat the price of a reel of Baseline.

Another vote for Head Velocity/Isospeed Cream hybrid. Or Ngut/Cream hybrid. Not only is it comfortable with great feel. It plays so consistently until it breaks. Not so with most poly.

Dunlop Black Widow 17g, you won't regret. I had the same problem. Currently stringing 52x48. Doesn't last that long but when it's good, it's great.

IMHO and imhe for most shoulder issues you need to reduce static weight of the racquet. You are simply using too heavy of a racquet for your body...

I know it sucks but that’s the truth

That does not hold true for elbow issues - in fact just the opposite. You sure that is sound advice for shoulder issues?

In general, most experts recommend that if you have joint issues use a HEAVIER and more FLEXIBLE racquet strung at LOWER tension that is more ELASTIC. This absorbs more of the shock on the joints.

You can confirm this with numerous posts here and websites on the subject.

I have read here too heavy a racquet can cause shoulder injury. It occurs to me TE is an impact injury, and many shoulder injuries are motion strain injuries. I moved to Volkl 11.5 oz (heavier) for TE, and it does feel like the inreased mass helps at impact. But it's noticeably more weight to move overhead in the serve throwing motion. 11.5 is fine ... but I suspect I would struggle with 12.5+. Just guessing, never tried. Also ... no doubt there are also shoulder impact injuries. Lots of sore shoulders from poly clear up with a break with softer string.

Soft poly is an oxymoron. The string may be rated soft, but it is still not elastic on ball impacts unless you go with thicker gauges, i.e. 16 ga or thicker. Co polymers mitigate the lack of elasticity, but the polyester is still going to stretch permanently. @fuzz nation has the solution and that is to use plain old SG at whatever tension or gauge feels like it is in your Goldilocks zone. If you want to tame power, use multi/SG hybrids. 3 cents.

I can vouch for Isospeed Cream. Easily the most comfortable copoly that I have tried (not that I'm an expert)

Used Head Velocity Main/Isospeed Cream Cross as well. Very comfortable and may be just what your after if you want a little less power than a full bed of multi.

Your shoulder is the most complicated joint in the body, and takes the longest to heal. I injured my shoulder a while back. I found the lighter the racquet was, the more it aggravated my shoulder. Hopefully you have seen a doctor and are taking treatment like anti inflammatories and stretching/strengthening exercises. If not, your condition could become chronic. Don't mess about with this joint. Stay off a set up that will transfer more shock to your joints and possibly tear more tendons and cause more inflammation.

Best string for shoulders is nat gut (at least in the mains). The way the racquet recoils on serves changes completely, it just cuts through contact without feeling much resistance, like a knife through butter.

I hope you picked a good soft string out from all these suggestions. The C10 Pro is very string sensitive as well as tension sensitive. I've used them since the later 90's. I have been using gut mains at 59-60 and the crosses have been touch and go. Mainly because once I find a really good cross the mfg discontinues the string or comes out with a "new and improved " version, usually it is always worse than the original. I am trying to find a decent soft cross myself. So far I have liked YTex Quadro Twist, Ashaway Dynamite Rough, and LF Vorso. I did like the old version of Lux TiMo but they changed the formula, and the old Ashaway Dynamite 17 g, again they discontinued that version.

If your shoulder is sore and you're using the C10, there isn't a soft enough poly. It's time to consider a hybrid. Use 17 or 18 gauge synthetic gut mains and a thin poly in the crosses. Go Roger with it and string the mains 4 - 5 pounds tighter than the crosses.

Agreed. Any poly, no matter how soft is going to aggravate your shoulder issues if you persist in using it. I wouldn't even think of using any poly, hybrid or otherwise, until you are completely pain free. Have you considered stringing the multi at a higher tension to get more control and less power?

Softest poly I’ve played is RPM blast and sonic pro edge. But why go fulll poly? If you’re coming from multi fila string there are many ways to stiffen the string bed without going full poly. You can:
-tighten your string tension
- SG string
- Hybrid string set up

Have to agree with this, having had a recurring rotator cuff issue (from separating my shoulder when I was younger), when playing with a lighter/tweener racquet it kept coming back. I've also had minor occurrences of TE and found it more related to my technique, grip size and strings used. But that's my two cents and not really what the OP was asking... :)

Try the Prince Tour XT18. I switched to this very armfriendly soft poly from Yonex Poly Tour Pro.
This string saved my wrist and elbow.

Very good to play in my Yonex Dr100 and Ai100 @51/49

Hi,
Do you think it´s softer than the poly tour pro? I´m recovering from TE too. How does the string perform vs poly tour pro? Did you play with the PTP 1.20?

Yes, XT18 is a little softer and not so muted, more power, maybe a little bit more spin support because of the lower COF. control same to YPTP. Durability and tension more for YPTP.

YPTP in 1.20 is great, too....but I would prefer the Tour XT 18. You can check the reviews at stringerforum for this string.

I do not need to say, that every poly is **** during recovery from TE.

I would recommend some of the more springy feeling poly strings like Volkl Cyclone Tour, V-Torque Tour, or V-Square in a thin gauge if you had to use full poly while recovering from TE and want high spin capability.

The C10 is very string tension sensitive. You have to get the tension in the right range to get the benefits of the racquet. Too loose and the racquet is not worth using.
What do you feel is the right tension range mctennis? I feel I am not in the zone with my C10's

Völkl v square is soft . Way softer than most “ soft “ polys in my opinion. Great touch no pain . Unreal spin capabilities

But if you want one of the most absolute softest string out there even more than natty gut is head fxp tour . I swear it is the softest string due to its construction. Swear it feels just like a rubber string and it saved my arm and my wallet , as gut is just so expensive but all gut .. well.....

Most all gut ......

is so damn lively and Ferrell , hard to control. At least it is for me

I've been using WC Silverstring @ 22 kg for the last 3 years and now using Dunlop NT hybrid at 23 kg. Silverstring is a bit crispier but i'm very happy with both of them at the mentioned tension. I hope it helps
