Resident tennis coach now in charge of ordering stock and have gotten the nod to implement new ideas for my clubs sake. Looking for the fastest ball brand available on the market. Wanting to buy in largescale bulk. Let's just get some facts straight. Pushers are bad for business. I dont have official stats so I'm gonna go by some paperwork of canned competitions over the last 5 years for a club I'm on the committee for. I wont mention the club name to keep them out of heat. But I will say its an Australian club and after a reshuffle of committee members and a hefty loss of members over the last 3 months, I'm writing to say we've had enough.
It's the slower, weighted down balls we have to use these days. And neighboring clubs are also keen to find out whats for sale too. We dont expect major brands to manufacture them.
For every one regular attending pushing/hacking weirdo clubs will lose 5 or 6 decent competitors on average. People get sick of contantly bending over during matches. It's often enough to crumple small singles competitions. The players just aren't coming back. Sure that one weirdo felt good and got off doing what he did, but the loss of other members and comps barely lasting 3 weeks when they were supposed to go 12-14 isn't worth it. This is major $$$$ loss. Our club has been having this trouble since 2012 and its only just ramped up with problems again. I can't patrionise leaving members about how they have to improve to beat them. You try that. Theyre not being sore losers. They just want normal tennis again. A business has to make money and right now we're just angering a large demographic to satisfy a small one.
I'm not talking about a beginner that runs around and does what they can to the best of their ability making it a match. I'm talking about people that get off on constantly hacking the ball down with no pace or other strategies frowned upon constantly. I'm now in charge of ordering stock and am 100% confident faster and livlier balls will sort this problem out.
I remember back in the early 2000's if someone were to try soft pushing or hacking strategies, they would get punished because the ball would sit up and get clobbered. As a result it would discourage people from attempting that sort of play and use more tennis again. Technique was rewarded.
Nowadays the balls just sink rapidly to the ground by default. Which obviosuly rewards push and hack play.
And I know pushers will probably not like what ive written here, but here's the thing. If you as a business manager had to choose between losing one paying customer demographic to gain 5 or 6 times that, you'd do it for that kind of money.
In this club we want as many people competing and enjoying tennis as much as possible. We want them to be chatty and talking about gear and strings etc, What we don't want is people asking not to be up against other opponents again because theyre forever bending over and never actually playing tennis shots. Im just trying to rectify a problem. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
