Looking for Prestige MP replacement

un6a

Semi-Pro
Hi, i'm looking for similar racquet as my youtek prestige MP, but with bigger sweetspot. I tried a few bigger head size racquets and while i liked forgivness they offer, none of them had stability, feel and cotrol of prestige.

From my research, good candidates for replacement may be

1) Prince Classic Graphite 100
2) Yonex Vcore tour 97 310
3) Yonex Vcore tour 97 G 310

Unfortunatelly i can not demo any of them.
So i'm looging for notes regarding racquets i listed above or possible other racquets suggestions. My preffered Swingweight is 315-320.

Thank you

I demoed Youtek Prestige Pro some time ago, and i agree that sweet spot was slightly bigger, spin and power was easier to get, but it felt sluggish compared to MP. I could play with it, but not as effective as with MP. It was just a bit heavier than what i would prefer.

… Try the IG update of the MP and the Pro (not graphene, the IG). They are both more forgiving than the predecessor. Also the sale prices at the moment are incredible.

Try the IG Radical Pro I think. A lot easier to hit, nice sweet spot, crazy access to spin and surprisingly good at the net for a radical... worth a look IMO

Thanks for suggestion, but 330 SW is too much for me, and it looks like it's power/control ratio is very different from Prestige MP.

I don't think difference will be big enough for me. IG models got same weight, balance, head size and pattern. I'm looking for bigger headsize or atleast
some tech which makes sweetspot bigger like yonex isometric. I know i will loose a bit of control, but i want to retain solid feel which is rare trait in my preffered weight range. Thanks anyway.

… You are stubborn, listen when people speak to you for god's sake.

The IG update has a noticeably larger sweetspot, is more solid and has slightly more power. If you think similar specs means that they play the same, then you're in for a world of surprises. IMHO, either the IG Prestige MP is what you're looking for or you should work on your technique in order to be able to wield the Pro.

You will not find a racquet outside the Prestige line that plays similarly with a larger sweetspot and without being too heavy for your liking.

Anyways, the racquets you were looking at…
VCores: Tour G only worth consideration, but a quite different stick in every area.
Prince Classic Graphite: Worth a consideration after you have tested the IG Prestige MP, but IMO a worse racquet in every area except forgiveness.

Why do you think they're awful? You should really back up your your stance if you're going to make such bold claims.

its a pretty big consensus on these boards that its terrible.

a little lead in the hoop thought and its not terrible. it lacks feel in my opinion, but its not the worst racket ive ever hit

meh the SW can be altered. i played with a prestige forever and found the IG radical pro to not be terribly far off in terms of feel. Obviously it is a bit more powerful, but i didnt notice it lacking control. Great feel around the net, and better access to power on the serve. Also a much bigger sweet spot. You never know how it feels until you hit it for yourself. Don't just go on the opinions of others!

tinny feel, they lack the famous "Prestige feel". That alone was enough for me to shake my head in disappointment, but in other areas it also did not excel. It's like they tried making a modern feeling Prestige… What's the point in that? For the Graphene I'd have to go into lengthy customizations to make it somehow work for me and then I'd still be more happy with a stock IG Prestige. It's a terrible update because it does not in any way inherit the great qualities of the Prestige line. The TW reviews reflect what I'm saying.

I did not back up my stance, because the general attitude towards this update on here is quite negative and I have expressed my dislike for the update in numerous threads. If somebody is coming from tweeners… Give the Graphene Prestiges a shot. If somebody has been playing true Prestiges though (or anything similar), the Graphenes are not likely a racquet that they will like.

I just bought the Prestige MP (great sale on now) and can't wait to hit with it.

In regards to the sweet spot, do you know where you tend to hit within the hoop (high on the frame or?). 3 & 9 might do the trick.

If you are often hitting higher up on the frame maybe you should consider adding some lead to raise/open it up a bit. Good luck either way: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/lc/customize.html

12 O'Clock
Get ready for a power surge. If you are having difficult hitting the ball deep on the tennis court this could be your solution. Enough weight will turn your pea shooter into a bazooka, but watch out, you'll be sacrificing maneuverability, which could spell disaster for your volleys. Also, the sweet spot will shift towards the top of the frame.

10 O'Clock and 2 O'Clock
If your looking to make your tennis racquet more stable, especially on balls hit near the top of the frame, this adjustment should do the trick. By stretching the sweet spot towards the upper edges of the frame the weight will allow the racquet to stay firm in your hands even when you don't make contact in the center of the string bed. Expect a slight increase in power and a considerable drop off in maneuverability.

3 O'Clock and 9 O'Clock
Other than the increase in swing weight, it's all upside for this tennis racquet lead tape configuration. You'll have more power and a substantially wider sweet spot.

6 O'Clock
Expect greater stability with a just a smidgen more power and a slight sacrifice in racquet maneuverability. If you tend to make contact close to the throat of the racquet, this will pull the sweet spot down towards that area.

Handle
Net rushers rejoice! By adding a little weight at the tennis racquet handle you might just find the extra help you need to put that devastating touch on your volleys. Best of all, there will be no change in swing weight or maneuverability.

I in a same boat trying to switch Prestige MP to something else.
I've tried new Prestige,speed pro,extreme pro, wilson 6.1, PS 95,
Babolate pure strike tour, dunlop f3.0, etc.

So far my favorite is Technifibre TFight 325, 320, 315 Ltd lines.

they're awful, big nope from me.

He's right! Listen to him.
I've tried the new MP and it doesn't feel like a prestige. Not to talk about how they ruined the Pro and the Mid.
The Microgel Pro was the best all-court racquet i've ever tried and they managed to ruin the Prestige Pro ever since!

I actually quite like the IG PP :-P The YouTek can be tricky as it is quite unforgiving, there I agree. I should get a Microgel PP at some point if it is that good I guess

110% agree. The microgel Prestige Pro was an awesome racquet and the Youtek doesn't play as solid or sweet as the microgel did.

Try the Graphene Speed Pro. I think it plays a lot like a Prestige, yet polarized, without added weight. A touch stiffer, but that can be smoothed out with the right string.

Happy hunting...

I like the sound the IG Prestige Mid makes on contact. It was very shocking what happened this time around to both the Prestige and Radicals.

O, I see, you're a follower of the biggest 3.5 online discussion faction.

Honestly I think the new line has shot some new life into the prestige line. All the other predecessors were exactly the same with some lead tape adjustments here and there.

Don't shoot it down as an option because some 3.5 "talk tennis gurus" said it was terrible. Try it out first.

KE - I understand you don't like it, but in all honestly, nobody should really care what you think. You're obviously still in love with your rackets for grandpas.

You know what's funny? Everyone's ratings on rackets is always in line with the TW reviews... You know what that means?

You guys are not informed enough to form your own opinion, so you take the opinion of someone you regard as an authority figure in their area of expertise and you reciprocate their opinions. Wake up sheeple!

woah there don't get cocky will you. Racquet lines exist for a reason, they are supposed to provide something other racquet lines do not and represent that. Has the Pure Drive or the AeroPro Drive changed a lot since they were introduced? Not to this extent. They all can be played interchangeably (just like the PS90). Are these racquets for grandpas too?

The Prestiges have a large following, because their feel is greatly appreciated. The new Graphene update has completely changed what their racquet lines are. The Radical is more of a harsh tweener racquet with a larger head. The Prestige is a hollow feeling racquet and is hated by the Prestige following in general. You somehow stay close to what the racquet line stands for because people look for what it represents when buying/testing racquets.

Put simply: The new updates don't play like Prestiges (or Radicals) and do not deserve the name. They might as well make them into a new line of racquets.

Change is not always good. Don't change what is working for you; ever heard of that?

You know what? I am the first to say when I disagree with the TW testers. For example Andy said the PS 95S has more power than the 6.1 95S. I immediately disagreed. You know what else is funny? The extremely positive reviews of the Tour G here. Remind me, what was the opinion of the TW testers? Oh yeah, they found it clunky and generally disliked it.

I have tested all of the new Prestiges. The Graphene Prestige Rev Pro was something I would pay for to smash into bits, most frustrating racquet to test, ever. The Graphene Prestige Pro was awful in comparison to my own IG Prestige Pros, hollow feel, less control and by no means a Prestige. The Graphene Prestige MP was just plain weird. It played like the past MPs, only with a hollow feel and less control. A complete downgrade from the past model.

You need to stop throwing accusations around like a headless chicken and get informed yourself. Sheeple my ***.

Out of all the new Graphene rackets, the Prestige MP is the closest to it's predecessor.

The Radical's mold has changed, the Speed's as well, I haven't tried the new Pro or Rev, so I don't have an informed opinion on it.

"closest to its predecessor" and still as far off as can be. You are uninformed, but that was obvious from your first post.

I think the new Graphenes' have a larger sweet spot than its' predecessor.

I've used the Prestige line since the i.Prestige. Looking at your signature, I can only judge that you have no idea what you're talking about since you carry 3 different rackets around.

The new Graphenes do have a larger sweet spot, that's why your ill-formed strokes can't handle anything but an ancient relic that plays like a 2x4 from the 80's.

Explain to me the correlation please! :)
How does owning three racquets mean I have no idea?
How does a larger sweetspot and me "not being able to handle it" (I actually can handle it, I just don't like it) mean I have ill-formed strokes?

By the way, saying that old racquets play worse than new racquets is the most ridiculous argument I have ever heard. I am finding it doubtful that you have played with every Prestige since the i.Prestige. Do you mind telling me which racquet you are currently sporting?

I am currently sporting the Graphene Prestige MP, the greatest Prestige ever created.

SO far followings were mentioned

1) Prince Classic Graphite 100
2) Yonex Vcore tour 97 310
3) Yonex Vcore tour 97 G 310

4. Graphene Speed pro
5. IG Prestige Pro
6. Technifibre Tfight series (from me)

7. Graphene Prestige series

Any other suggestions? What about more "modern" replacements?

The Graphene Prestige is the "modern" replacement of its' predecessor, that's why everyone seems to hate it so much. It has moved a bit away from the classic plush feel towards a more springy modern feel.

I suggested he try the IG Prestige MP. Otherwise… He might like the IG Radical MP. It won't have the same stability or level of control, but it will be easier to use (larger sweetspot, easier access to power).

lol this 5point5 guy is almost as funny as Fedace. I've owned every model of Prestige Pro except for the Graphene. My roommate, however, had two of them, so I've had a fair amount of time hitting with them, and can form an unbiased opinion of them.

They're lighter, stiffer more powerful versions of their predecessors. To me, they feel like toys. Hollow and tinny, they have a funky, small sweetspot, that if you miss creates an unpleasant feeling for my arm. This is completely unlike the older versions, which, despite being players frames, are still more forgiving.

As for the MP, while I haven't hit with it nearly as much as the new pro, I can say this: the feeling of the frame is similar. The way it swings through the air is different, albeit only slightly, but that clunky feeling to the frame is still noticeable. If you're used to tweeners and want something with a little more weight and a little less power, I can see how this would be a good stick, but to carry on the Prestige name in this stick is borderline blasphemous.

OP, I'd suggest the yonex Tour g 310. Feels much better than the current Head offerings, and is the most "Head like" new release out right now.

I'd also definitely suggest the Tecnifibre 315 ltd 18 mains. That racquet is a no brainer demo if you are coming from the Prestige MP. It is basically a Head frame that feels incredible. It even has the Head pallets under the grip.

I agree with your review. I'll add the MP I thought had a small sweet spot as well.

I can give you a comparison between the IG Prestige MP and TF315 ltd 18m as I own both ones.

According to me they seem like of the same mold. Same string pattern, same headsize and frame thickness. Only noticeable difference is the type of grommets. The Head has CAP grommets and the TF315 has the shock absorb grommets. I guess the CAP grommets might fit the TF315 but I am not 100% sure about that. VS Babolat 'll definitely know that. :-)

The TF315 ltd is a great frame that has a more comfortable softer feel than the IGPMP due to its very low flex. (My TF315 has been measured at 57RA). It is also vibration free.

Though I wanted to like the TF315 it only feels too muted to me that reminds to a Pro Kennex Redondo MP that has a similar flex. With these flexy frames I always feel a lack of crispness especially with my volleys. I just seem to prefer frames with a littler higher flex between 60 and 63 RA (strung).

So I still prefer the IGPMP because it has a crisper, more connected feel and a better feedback as well.

First off, the Graphene Prestiges are trash. There's no way these "things" can be taken seriously. Whoever said the Graphene Speed Pro is comparable is foolishness. Have you hit with it?! It's nowhere near the Prestige MP. All the racquets with the polarized weight (3pts or lower head light) are hard to play with, especially serve with. Plus, these racquets are usually arm toxic. I actually enjoyed the Graphene Speed MP, with Wilson NXT at about 51-52 lbs. But as with all Graphene racquets, the shoulder and arm instantly started deteriorating.
Second, the IG Prestige Pro doesn't play with near the plushness of the IG MP, and IMO is an unpleasant racquet to play with. There are a whole lot better racquets in this weight class.
You might give the Volkl C10 Pro a try or something similar, or even go heavier than the Prestige MP with more head light.

In short, there is no replacement for the Prestige MP, so don't try to replace it. You will just have to go to a different type of racquet, or just keep your Prestige MP, simple as that.

See the post above you - The Tecnifibre 315 is very similar. It even has a Head pallet under the grip. It just boils down to what feel you prefer. The Tec has the more classic, softer head feel and the IG is crisper. But VSBabolat got one and even said the sticks had the Head DNA down.

OP should be all over the tfight 315 advice given by 2 trusted posters here.....

Were I building a new bag that would be my first stop for new frames....tho vintage first choice (i prestige, i radical) remains pretty easy to find.

Yeah, TFight series has been very easy transition from Prestige so far.

Don't rule out 320, 325 if you look for more powerful with slightly bigger sweet spot than the prestige.
