I use Babolat Pure Drive w/Cortex and usually string at 55-60 lbs. Here are my experiences with strings, please advise me a short list of strings that I should try out that would fit my tastes.
Babolat Pro Hurricane 16g: Liked it a lot, but I strung it at 60 lbs and hurt my arm really bad. I also had it strung in the mains with Xcel in the crosses and found that xcel broke really fast with this hybrid, but the control-spin-power felt great while it lasted.
Babolat Xcel Premium 16g: I actually like this string more than most other critiques, however I agree with everyone's criticism when they claim it breaks too fast. I also find that on eb@y it's pretty cheap compared to what most tennis vendors charge.
Babolat Superfine play 16g: I used a full job of this once at approximately 55 lbs and thought it was dead, i didn't get any spin and couldn't volley very well at all. I also had a hybrid of this in the crosses with Pro Hurricane Tour 16g in the mains and I really like it a lot, I often find it is too much power though.
Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour 16g: I love this string, I've used it primarily with full jobs but have experimented with a few hyrbids and I loved them all. My only complaint is that it is pretty expensive and can sometimes have too much power.
Wilson Stamina 16, 15L, 17g: I used stamina a lot when I was in high school, it lasted a long time, but as I improved and experimented with more expensive (babolat) strings, I find this string dead.
Prince Synthetic Gut w/D and w/o D 16, 17g: For a synthetic gut I like this string a lot, but I think I really like polys more for their innate spin and power benefits.
Luxilon Big Banger 16g: Eh, it was pretty good but I didn't find it anywhere near worth the price of it, I would probably never use it again, I don't think I really generate enough head speed to truley abuse this style of string.
I hear talk of a lot of weird SPPP strings, some kirschenbaum or isospeeds too, I really want to experiment here.
