Yes, orthotics definitely induce less pronating.
You should look for stability shoes. Actually something
called Motion Control shoes are more recommended but
I don't think you get real MC shoes unless you buy running shoes.
Running shoes does not have lateral stability as strong as tennis shoes.
Therefore you probably have to find stability shoes in tennis domain.
Recently I found Adidas Barricade III very stable(most stable among
shoes I've tried). I also found some orthotics called Spenco
very good (just $30-40 in sporting goods store,
even better than $500 custom othrotics prescribed
by foot doctors, IMO) With these combo, I hardly feel pain or any
discomfort. I feel my footings are very stable.
Barricade III is somewhat bulky. If you more nimble shoes,
find low-to-the ground satble shoes and use orthotics.
Mid top shoes are not necessarily better. Just find most stable
and comfortable shoes for your feet.
