Looks like Del Potro is hurt again...

First tournament back from the knee cap injury and barely able to walk in his match against McDonald right now. Assuming the news of an aggravation or setback will come out during the post match presser. What does this mean for DelPo going forward and through the rest of the year?

The really tall guys break down pretty easy.
I still don't see the mechanics of that though. Tall guys would face back issues for example. This guy has had a zillion surgeries on his wrist for example. Knee cap injuries are darn serious. How is that related to his height? Just trying to understand things here. He is like Haas I think. The body is just not made for such gruelling exercise.

Do you remember Yao Ming?

All that weight distributed over longer, thinner limbs = more stress on joints. There is a point at which bigger isn't better and DelPo is right there.

What sport would suit such guys? Basketball alone? It can be very frustrating. Haas was a guy I absolutely adored. To see him out of every tournament was so frustrating.

The longer limbs place more stress on the joints. Seems like the tall guys fall apart a lot faster.

Some people just have weaker joints (I am one, I know). Also, Delpo is not just tall but he also looks to have a heavier built than other tall players. He is similar to Philippoussis who, IIRC, also got injured quite a lot.

Wonder if Del Po will even play Indian Wells. He looked like he was in pain against MacDonald so probably doubtful.

His movement definitely didn't look good tonight against McDonald. There were several makeable balls he didn't attempt to move towards in the deciding set breaker. Looks as if he may have come back too soon. Will be interesting to see if he will be able to defend his title in Indian Wells in 2 weeks' time.

Delpo will continue being injured. He has not changed much in anything he does. He has not figured out what has been causing his injuries. Therefore his injuring will prevail until his retirement. Sad but true. I have been saying this for years.

When is this guy not hurt? I don't get into the sob stories, so I don't keep track of players like Del Potro, Nishikori, Monfils and players of that nature. Just not interested in those drama queens. Good players for sure, but not tough at all.

Not every cause of injury is something you can do about.

I know its not his height, just seems to be a lazy excuse for the injuries in this case!

Cilic is a similar height who also plays a ballbashing game but he's not injury prone like this either.
Game type doesn't really matter. Cilic is a lot lither than Del Potro, which is pretty important.

Isner not getting injured has a lot to do with Isner barely moving at all

Agree but if it was just one thing with him I would say you are right. It is always something else. His overall conditioning has not been done right

Most of his injuries have been the same wrist injuries on both sides. Patella fracture just terrible luck and I'm not sure what you can do to prevent it except for not falling on the damn thing.

Not every player has a great body for tennis or other sports, despite being good players. Perhaps Delpo's problems are due to poor training, or most likely was not blessed with a strong enough body for tennis?

Its funny, as people who don't suffer multiple injuries, don't seem to understand some people are just like that.

Me personally having always played sports ( football, tennis as a kid, then martial arts and weightlifting as an adult ), I constantly had something going on, and still do to this day LOL
Ive been dedicated to rest, supplements, diet, you name it, but ive always had something going on unfortunately.
Some people just aren't as fortunate as Federer LOL

I hear ya. JMDP is almost too athletic for his own good. Was he the hardest hitter in the history of the game before his wrists gave out? I think so, and that is why they gave out IMO. He also moves "too well" for his size. He isn't elephantine like Milos or Isner, he is built more like a Size XXL Djokovic.
