I think this is a better poll. I only do this because I still see 40-15 being thrown around to annoy me and other Federer fans... But what is worse?

Being up 8-7 40-15 but losing the championship or having the embarrassment of being disqualified in a slam where you were the big favorite?

I think in Tennis a lot of times players lose matches after having match points it’s not unusual and is part of the game but a disqualification because you hit an old lady in the neck is a bigger embarrassment especially since everyone thinks you’re a lock for the title.

If you keep pickin' at it, it's never gonna heal...
That being said, 40-15 is worse, it will always be worse.
Novak was nowhere near as close to winning as Rog was.

Worse to lose your 3.5 league match to a pusher. Then come home and get emasculated by your wife and disrespected by your kids. Then go to your crappy, dead end job the next day.

In your spare time, criticize the greatest tennis players that have ever lived.

I disagree it’s not about only winning it’s about the humiliation of being disqualified. It’s much worse.

Lol being DQ'd says nothing about your mental strength or legacy

40-15 on the other hand...
It does say about mental strength because he couldn’t be mentally strong against PCB losing 5-6. 99.9% of players would have kept their calm and control in such a situation. But in a fifth set in a very close match it’s normal to have some nerves.

Then what does it say about the man who lost to him from 40-15 up? On serve?

Maybe if the DQ was at the final while leading 2-0? Maybe? But I'd prefer to be taken out by the decision of organisers instead of a knockout.

Considering Roger's reputation AND that it was his serve AND that he was about to beat Rafa and Novak back-to-back at a slam, AND, AND... I'm a fed fan but I can see that that was just an EPIC fail on his part...

Double match point? On your own serve? In the finals of Wimbledon?
If you already won the tournament 8 times it’s not really embarrassing. I’m sure there are several finals where the player had match points but lost. For instance in one of her AO finals Martina Hingis lost to Capriati after having several match points, it happens and I’m sure there are many other examples.

Anyways I’m surprised there are so many Djokovic fans here right now, aren’t you all visiting the energy pyramid like your player asked you to?   :sneaky:

it was the biggest fail of his career

the only event that could be anywhere close to redemption would be to win Wimbledon again for #21 but even then, we'd be wondering "what if this was #22 if he converted one of those MPs...."

if Djokovic ends up third wheel in the slam race, that DQ will hurt quite a bit in retrospect

right now it's a bit up in the air so it's hard to say what the long term impact will be

how many more slams can he win? will he blitz through Fedal in the slam count or will he struggle?

It's only embarrassing if you get embarrassed. I think Federer got over it pretty quickly. Guy can certainly afford a therapist and some nice luxuries to ease the suffering. Also, imagine all the amazing memories he has of winning slams. Don't think he's stuck for ways to feel better.

$1.5 million in runners up cash buys a lot of comforting Lindt chocolate.
