Many people said a new slam winner would bring some fresh air into the WTA and that certainly would be true.
however for her career I think that is a good thing. We have seen it countless times: a halfway cute girl wins some tournaments and all of a sudden she thinks she is a super model or fashion designer and concentrates more on glamour parties, getting your own fashion collection, going to talk shows and do commercials and modelling.
and all of a sudden she has made a lot of money but her tennis goes down the toilet.
examples:
ana ivanovic: won her first slam final at age 20 and then did nothing else
petra kvitova: won her first slam final and is still a solid player but seems to have lost some drive plus she is (was?) dating the worm
-wozniacki: did not win a slam but became a huge commercial star, almost married a top golfer and now is doing nothing.
sharapova also took some time to win more after her first slam and was of course the biggest commercial celeb ever but unlike the other girls she was able to get back to hard work and focus on tennis rather than being a wannabe model/fashion designer/actress/singer.
By losing her first slam final halep got a great lesson that she has to work even harder and success is not coming easily. might help her career in the end. don't get me wrong, doing so´me commercials to make some extra money is good but they need to make tennis their first focus and not act like anyone would care for their modelling or fashion designing if they were not tennis players (yes they are cute, but there are 10.000s of eastern european semi-pro models who look better and make some very meager wages for their jobs).
