Low-powered, soft poly.

I’m looking for suggestions on, as the title says: a low-powered, soft poly. Other criteria:
-1.23-1.27mm diameter.
-non-textured; traditional circular cross-section

Tension maintenance is something I can compromise on; I restring often. “Spin potential” is another usual attribute that is not important. Mostly it has to be soft, almost “mushy” feeling, with comfort and control its strong points. As usual, the cheaper the better.

I have tried, in order from favorite to least fav: SPPP, Tech Red Code, Lux ALU Power Fluoro, Weiscannon Silverstring, Topspin Cyberflash, MSV Focus Hex, Solinco Tour Bite. All ~16L-18g.

A low powered but comfortable poly is something hard to find. Every comfortable poly is considered powerful when compared to other polys.

You might try WeissCannon Scorpion, but the best option would be to use lower tensions

sppp..............

Yea that's what I figured, I know they are hard to find. I do like SPPP, looks like I'll be sticking with it a while. I am also going to string up some Bab Pro Hurricane 17g next and try that out. Thanks for the replies.

^^ Crosses such as MCS and genesis thunderblast have worked the best. The former being super soft and the latter a little more crisp.

Again, thanks for the suggestions. I should also add that I am a big fan of poly/poly hybrids, and I use these softer strings in the crosses with Lux ALU Power (Rough) in the mains. The idea is to prevent arm injuries I have gotten in the past from full Lux, while still keeping a consistent stringbed feel and lowering string costs. I have added to my list to try:

-Signum Pro Hyperion: RSI rates this stiffer than SPPP, but some say it feels softer.
-Head Sonic Pro: Not normally a fan of head strings, but I'm open-minded
-WeissCannon Black 5 Edge: Willing to try it since the edges are not so sharp for a shaped cross-section.

The WeissCannon and Signum Pro are starting to encroach on full-Lux string prices, so they'd have to be stellar to warrant everyday use. And if you are about to suggest, "Why not use gut or a multi in the crosses?" I have several times with varied tensions and I hated it every time.

SPPP 1,23 and WC SS 1,25 are wery good choices.

At the same tension 23/22 for me SS has a bit more spin (grabs ball better) on groundstrokes and serve.

One option would be Mosquitobite 1,16 but with 1-2kg higher tension than SPPP 1,23. I don't play with this one only because I can't control my first flat serve with it.

Signum Pro Hextreme 1,25 is also very good alternative to SPPP 1,23 with more spin and because of that also with better control. I have not tried it in 18x20 but in 16x19 it's very good... hmmm... will test it in Prestige MP soon. It's not so soft than SPPP but because it has better spin you can lower the tension for 1kg.

Also wery nice find for me was MatchPower 1,25... I strung racket to one of my friend who got this string for free fom tournament. Racket K Pro Open, tension 23/22 and I hit with that one some groundstrokes... soft, good control, decent spin, low powered... wery positive suprise. I will also try this in Prestige MP @ 22/21.

Scorpion is a beautiful string in hours 0-3, but it goes dead v.quickly, and when it goes dead, it tightens/stiffens up in quite a nasty way.

Not sure why that happened to you, but Scorpion lasted gave me much more than 3 hours life and it maintains playability much better than average among polys, and I've tried plenty.

I'd say 3 hours is the peak performance window. After 5 hours its starting to go off in a major way. It definitely doesn't maintain anything close to its original playability after that. Whatever original elasticity it had to be begin with has been beaten out of it by that time. Yes, you can use it to hit the ball over the net, but the poor thing is dead.

With Scorpion, its a case of 'I love you! (0-3 hours) I hate you! (5+ hours)'

It gives me no pleasure in saying that because along with BHBR16, Scorpion 1.22 is my standard 'go to' poly. But it really doesn't last long before going dead. I burn through reels of this stuff in no time at all. Maybe that's the reason its relatively inexpensive in reel form.

B5E could never be described as soft.

Try it with a soft multi cross as I suggested. I'm sure a full job feels hard and dead.

Think Torres may be more sensitive to strings than others here.

It's a bit like playing with a cat. You throw it a ball of wool and it dances about and it does all sort of amusing things. Then you try doing the same thing with the carcass of the cat that died in the shed 4 months ago.....one's alot more fun than the other.

Anyone on TTW work for animal control that lives near Torres? May want to put him on the "watch list". ;)

That's creepy.

*cough* *dials animal control*

All of the Dunlop Black Window strings are really soft polys. In my mind anything with a stiffness rating under 195 is a noodle. Look at Genesis Heptonic 18 and Pacfic Poly Power 18 for soft polys in the 200 range. Just don't expect much durability.
