Low powered string recommendation for Angell TC97 16x19

I love the racquet but have been using SilverString at 55 and then at 58. Ball is still flying. Also, tried Ytex Quadro at 57 and it's too much power.

Thinking about trying Yonex PTP and Pro Line 2 at around 58.

I've had some elbow problems years ago so don't want anything too stiff.

5.0 player and don't hit a lot of topspin.

Stiff=low powered? I would say kirschbaum max power (not rough). Also maybe consider a thicker gauge of any string. I can't think of many low powered not stiff strings...

Asking for a low powered string that is not stiff is a dichotomy. If you must use polyester, switch to anything in 16 Ga or thicker and is described as pre-stretched. Proline II and 4G are described as such. If you don't like stings like that, have your stringer pre-stretch the poly or do 20% pre-stretch. Tension should be at mid-point unless you want to start off at high end of range.

You could also do 16 Ga Kevlar mains in the low to high 40's with a 16 Ga SG cross in the mid-point.

Ultra cable is a soft poly and is low-powered. I have had to drop my regular tension to get more power.

Another vote for RSlyon, love that string in my tc 95! I think ultra cable might mess up your grommets because the edges are very sharp and the angell grommets are soft.

While I suspect your swing path is probably the main issue along with moving your head during contact with the ball, problems I had when I first started playing tennis, give a set of Prince Tour XC 15g a try.

You suspect keeping his head still is the problem? A problem you had when you first started tennis...

The guy said he's a 5.0 so he started tennis a ways back.

Have you thought about head rip control? I found it low powered and spin friendly for a multi type string. Poly wise I like solinco tour Bite soft. It's got a low stiffness rating and hitting flat you can probably go relatively thin in terms of gauge and get a pretty soft feel.

Thx guys, gonna try Lyon, yonex PTP, pro line 2, and signum ppp

I couple guys I train w like hyper g but I'm worried about the stiffness.

played with the Yonex PTP at 58 lbs. - haven't played that well off the ground in awhile. felt stiffer than the Silverstring but the control was great and it was enough power. I'll try Pro Line 2 next.

I've got Hyper G 17g in mine and I really like it. It's crisp, but pockets the ball well. Great spin and adequate power. My arm is fairly sensitive and no arm issues thusfar.

I found full bed Hyper G to hurt my shoulder.. what tension do you strung it?

I mainly use poly/syngut, if too powerful I try go up by 3 or 4,5,6 lbs to get enough control and usually still very comfortable.

you could try the new Paris string from RS, crisper and spinnier than Lyon, I actually just tried a hybrid of this and Lyon, but not in my Angell, and thought this combination was superb, just getting it strung up in my TC97, will report back
I've stayed away from it because I got feedback it had power unlike Lyon which has excellent control. I need level of control to be high on the string

well then Lyon is your baby! :) and I know what you meant it is a more powerful string but still suited my 97, you might want to try the hybrid, I will hit with it tomorrow and will let you know

I broke the yonex 1.25 in about 4 hours which is kinda standard for me. Hitting tonight w/ the 1.30 Pro Line 2 so I will report back. I gotta order the Lyon now - can you buy that by the reel??

FWIW...17 gauge Hyper G was just a pinch too harsh for me. Then I tried the 18 gauge. Game over. I bought a reel and haven't looked back, or at anything else.

This was the end of a 2 year search for a poly string that would allow me to play full poly without significant discomfort, not have me go broke, and afford me the poly playability characteristics many of us cherish. My arm had suddenly become markedly sensitive to stringbed stiffness - something I really never dealt with before.

In fairness, I don't have the frame in question...so YMMV with this string in that frame. But I thought I would share my experience w the string anyway. I string the Hyper G 18 anywhere from 48 to 50 lbs in my Head Graphene Speed MP, and everything is just peachy.

Max power, Rs lyon or ALU power. Max power will be most predictable and probably durable too playbility wise, rs lyon will be on muted side but a good string, alu power feels amazing for 4-5 hours then playability will drop a lot. didnt enjoy hyper-g in this racket much, but liked in rf97. also trying adding 4-5 gms of weight on tc97 16x19 at 12 o clock. I liked mine much better after I did that.

I'll post my findings so far -

Yonex PTP Black 1.25 at 58 lbs. - great control, average spin (not a deal breaker for me) perfect amount of power, comfy enough but a little arm pain during my hitting, I broke it in about 4 hours

Yonex PTP Yellow 1.30 at 58 lbs. - slightly less control than 1.25, a lot more spin for some reason, hit a heavier ball (my buddy told me), no pain after playing, broke in about 4.5 hours

Kirschbaum PL2 - 1.30 at 58 lbs - much less spin than Yonex PTP 1.30, more directional control, hit a flatter ball, slight pain in my left wrist after playing from my two handed backhand which I normally don't get, broke in about 4.5 hours

Going to revisit my Silverstring at 60 lbs. to compare against the Yonex and gonna try the PL2 in 1.25

I'm also going to try to Lyon but it doesn't come in a reel so hoping I don't love it

I thought YTex quadro twist was to powerful also but their Square X has much better control and very arm friendly for a poly.

I really like Pro Line 2 in the 1.25 but the spin is less than the Yonex 1.25. I snapped the Yonex 1.25 yesterday in 2 hours which is just too short for me to make it my go to. Putting in Lyon this weekend so I'm close to decision time. As of right now I'd be happy w Pro Line 2 even though I am not getting great spin the control is great. If Lyon plays as comfortable and has slightly better spin than Pro Line I will be a happy

Played a match yesterday and the PL 2 was hurting my arm for some reason after 10 min. Everything I was hitting was short and it felt the string had died although I had only put 2 hours on it - I had a fresh string job of Silverstring at 60 lbs. in the bag and played three sets and played great/felt great. I'm going to stick with Silverstring now unless the Lyon which I'm trying tomorrow blows me away. Spin on the Sliverstring isn't great but it's not the most important part of my game but the control/power seems to be working at 60 lbs. for me. Maybe that extra 2 lbs. of tension is enough to help or maybe it's all in my head :D

Ok thanks I paid for the more expensive shipping which was a little over $20.00 and hoping it's a little faster.
I see why you love this string PP it is sweet, such a nice feel and I love the control.

So played a match today with the Lyon and just didn't gel with it. Serve was erratic and surprised to say the spin seemed less than silverstring. I just wasn't controlling the ball well and it feels like a heavy string compared to pl 2/silverstring?? Maybe it's in my head but I think I will just stick to silverstring at 60 bc I can get 5 hours of playing and the control/power is working for me. I really wanted to like Lyon but didn't work for my game. I strung it at 57 lbs.

I think most angell users string at lower tensions (<52 lbs). Maybe this is the reason you didn't like it?

Yea I used to have an Angel TC95 and strung it with Yonex PTP @ 48lbs, I found it to play very nicely. I have to be careful with racket/string combos due to a dodgy elbow but I felt no pain with this combo.

I currently play with an Aeropro Drive strung with Yonex PTP @ 48lbs and even that feels nice on the arm, so maybe the trick is keeping the tension low?

did you use the 1.25 or 1.30? I've gone low 50's but feel like I lose control imo

maybe I'll try ALU Power 1.25? anyone with experience with it in an Angel? I felt like I got more control from the Yonex 1.30 (and it lasted longer) than the Lyon. I feel like if I went down in tension with the Lyon I would lose even more control. Or go for the PL 2 and drop tension for comfort?

I used 1.25.

I have also used Alu Power 1.25 and liked that as well. I think it played marginally better than Yonex PTP, although it seemed to die off quicker.

Considering PTP is much cheaper than Alu Power I would go for that.

So I ordered HyperG in the 17G to try out, the more consistent players I play with swear by it so I'll try it around 52 lbs. Also got more of the Yonex PTP 1.30 in black and the Yonex HS string, Volkl Cyclone 17 and Tourna Big Hitter Silver to try. I'll string these lower as they are stiffer/deader low powered strings.

Best Low Power String I ever hit with is yonex spin (blue)

That string has everything you need.
+++ Durability
+++ Spin
+++ Control
++ Feel
--- Power
+++ Price
- Arm

Unfurtunalty I need some power for my string otherwise I would use it all time.

Now I play Luxilon Alu Power BB.

Actually I thinking about making a hybrid with luxilon cross and yonex spin mains.
But I m not sure if that works. Somebody has a idea?

Other Hybrid Ideas which can deliver me the Alu Power feel with a bit more Spin or feel?
Maybe multifilament hybrid option?

Anyone tried a stiff poly like msv focus hex in their tc97? Any thoughts?

So an update on this - I tried Cyclone 16g at 53 lbs. and really liked it but developed pretty serious wrist pain in my left wrist (I'm a righty). It was working for me as a nice spin friendly and low powered string I can really hit out on. Unfortunately due to the pain that string is out for me. Took a week off and tried Tourna Big Hitter Black 7 and strung it at 50 lbs. All I can say is wow, is very slightly more powerful than Cyclone imo and the spin was a bit better. I could really hit out and was hitting a very consistent big ball. Also, my serve was way bigger and placement was great (which is a big part of my game)

This is at the top of my list for go to string now. I'd like to try TourBite (at a low tension to save my arm), RPM Blast and maybe Cyclone in 17g at a lower tension tho

So another update, been playing some of the best tennis with big hitter black 7. However the durability of the string is simply not good. The string only lasted two hours. It is really comfortable on the arm and the power level is perfect for me. It is also one of the most spinny strings I have used. I'm not sure if I'll stick with it bc it's a pain to string every two hours of play. Any strings similar comfort wise but with a bit better durability?

2 hours? That must look a little strange when you show up at the court with your racquet bag and your stringer.

Any other string on similar level with BHB7 in regards to spin power and relative comfort? Black 5 Edge seems too underpowered and I think RPM will be too stiff on my wrist ...
