Low Priced Natural Gut

I'm thinking about doing a hybrid of a cheap natural gut on the cross and either a Luxilon Big Banger or Solinco Tour Bite for the mains.

What Natural Gut string that comes in a half set is best for its price. I'm not willing to go more than $15 for a half set of natural gut.

I use the full set of Titan 17 gauge and just cut it in half. $10 per half set ;)

I'm amazed at how long gut lasts when it's combined with a poly due to very little friction causing any notching in the mains. And I basically never have to straighten the strings.

Pacific Classic is $27 per full set and Babolat Tonic+ BallFeel (16g) is $33. Both are very good.

I have not tried to cheapo guts like Titan, Global, Gaucho,... but they tend to get a fair number of dodgy reveiws such as "broke on stringer or broke in bag before I could play with it".

BDE Performance is very good too but I don't think it is currently in productions. Any sets you find might be old and dry. Del Ray Beach stringers say McEnroe is carrying around a lot of old, dry BDE as he used it.

Pac Classic and Bab Tonic+ are both quality products - best performance for $ in my view.

Klip Legend Coated at $27 is also good but the coating is not anywhere near as good as Pacific or Babolat. Klip gut tends to unravel easily while stringing due to the very light coating. It is kind of like the string filaments just aren't bonded tightly. But, it does play nicely and have good durability in spite of the difficulty stringing. It also frays really quickly.

Try BDE natural guts. they are located right next to Babolat and they use the same material

Is BDE even making natural gut for tennis racquets any more? I thought they got out of the business over two years ago.

I 2nd the Pacific reccomendation, great gut for a great price.

I have been using Klip 17 and 18 Legend for over a year now and I really like the performance. Very easy to string, no coil or kink problem. I buy a full package and cut it in half.

Have used gaucho gut, mixed feelings really. It complimented my BB Ace quite well in the crosses but recently strung one and it just snapped whilst pulling, so I don't think I would buy that again. Your call about how much you want to pay.

what could you put in the crosses that would hold tension nearly as well as the gut?

to me I'm having trouble understanding the appeal of a gut hybrid string job. When I ordered my new Volkl V1 Classic it was before I got my Neos so I had them string it up, decided to try the Volkl gut/poly hybrid. After playing with it for about 5-6 hitting sessions the gut was barely frayed but it felt like the job had lost a lot of tension and was getting the trampoline feel. I'm assuming the poly crosses lost tension earlier than the gut mains. Is that a fair assumption, or no?

seems to me if you do a gut hybrid and the string you match with the gut loses tension before the gut breaks, you just wasted some of the money you spent on the gut. That's fine for the pros, but for me, not so much. If I'm going to put gut in there, I want it to last.

am thinking of going with a full bed gut string job, just a little tighter to mute the power a bit.

Unifibre (do a google search). Just strung this in mains with PHT crosses. Have NEVER had a breakage issue with this string, even when strung in excess of 60 lbs tension.

PS - I have no affiliation with either this string company or the seller.
