Luxilon Alu Power VS Rough?

I know that the rough have rough contact for more spin, but the two costs the same.

What is better? If the rough is the same that the alu power but with more spin, why costs the same? What characteristics is better the Alu power vs the rough?

Thanks.

Easy answer for me: I like the rought much better. More grab and spin on the ball. I play with polys some but only at low tensions, nothing above 45# for me.

1 - There is a debate whether shaped strings actually add more spin or whether people just think they do. (I think that they do add spin)

2 - Not everyone's priority is more spin.
More control, better (or different) feel, etc. could be more important to many people.

But what disadvantages have the rough vs the no-rough? Or the rough is better than no-rough? The rough have less control than no-rough?

Thanks.

Compared to the ALU, the Rough are a little bit less durable.

Also, as far as the debate on textured / shaped strings adding more spin to your shots...There was a study that showed that it adds maybe 1-2% more spin.

Some people swear that they get way more spin than that but its merely a mental thing where they forget that since they think they are getting more spin, they are actually really trying to hit with a lot more spin.

Different strings types (eg. nylon, poly, etc) vary much more in spin potential however.

The problem with those studies is they don't account for the grippy feel of the textured/twist, and really forget that hitting a tennis ball involves feedback from us. I think that the twisted/textured strings allow you to swing for more spin since you feel that you have gripped the ball and the ball won't slip from using a more severe angle and really going after that bite. Yes, maybe the same exact shot will only grip and spin the ball a negligible amount, but you aren't swinging the same.
