To be fair, there are a lot of outlandish prediction threads on this forum. It's no surprise that one of them will be right eventually. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

When I saw all the marvel movies being made, I said they eventually will make a dumb movie about "Ant Man" and of course they did years later. I read the entire Marvel History as a kid through the 25-issue series called "Marvel Saga." I thought "Ant Man" was the silliest marvel character and of course Hollywood gave it the green light.

I don't want to say anything more about Tennis as I don't want the thread to be taken down.

This was the match that was the turning point in Djokovic career. It awoken the beast back in him and he returned to the top again at Wimbledon 2018. Although he lost it, it made it even more determined to get back to the top. I thank Mr Cecchinato for this

The 2018 Wimbledon semi is what let the genie out of the bottle. It was a big heatwave in Britain that year from late May to late July, with very little rain in that whole period. I remember there was a shortage of carbon dioxide supplies at the time too, meaning a shortage of pop bottles in the shops. I remember thinking that these weather conditions were brilliant for Rafael Nadal to win Wimbledon again if he's ever going to. Apart from a half-hour rain shower, it was dry all tournament and damn hot. So of course, there had to be one match all tournament played indoors, and you know which match that was, thanks to the Isner vs. Anderson semi final lasting 6 hours and 36 minutes after going to 26-24 in the fifth set. There was also Wimbledon not putting the other semi on Court 1 at 6pm or so like they would have done in the old days.

Yes I will admit that was a slice of luck for Djokovic and us fans. I feel at that moment considering Nadal was at the top of game along with Federer whereas Djokovic was working his way back that Rafa would have been the favourite if it was played in the outdoor hot conditions. Despite that it was a very close match and it could have gone either way.

And also the Wimbledon committee had "the brilliant idea" to continue the match indoors the next day.
They pulled an ace up their sleeve for the following year to correct such an absurd mistake.

The 2018 Wimbledon rule was that both players had to consent to play outdoors the following day. Djokovic wasn't going to do that, of course.

This just made him annoyed, he said he didn't even want to play on grass.

It was actually two things that triggered the return, the first was the BS in the Kyle Edmund match that awakened the raging fire within, and then it was Nadal who should have stopped him in the semis, but let that match slip on a very tight moment. The rest is history.

It just doesn't make sense, really.
The Major tournaments are outdoor events and unless it rains or there is little light as in the case of Wimbledon, there is no reason to close the roof.
In 2018, the Referee's Office admitted not having a protocol on the matter and that the decision to close the roof in the first place was improvised.
So what you say is true, on the reset the two players were asked if they wanted to play outdoors but one of them (we already know who) did not agree despite the weather, that day Saturday, the conditions were optimal to play without the need for the retractable roof.

I still can't understand how did OP even think of making such a prediction. I always make predictions based on logic and analysis (and a bit of pessimism), even though some don't believe it. Here it was like a guess based on absolutely nothing. Lots of such predictions are being made in sports, and most of them obviously fail. It was like one in a million prediction. The chances of that match even happening were almost non existent.

Still waiting for @RS to like it.

missing some details/nuances, we seen many times when someone winning and then threads are coming for example osaka winning slam then thread we seen about ooh now expecting to surpass serena or smh like that, its normal thing here on this forum, or ruud awakening or korda rising etc, same is here, thread was created after that italian player won one small tourney in april
Well, a small one. What were the chances of this match even happening, leave alone Cecchinato winning it.

Still, Cecchinato never even won a first round slam match before this tournament. Actually, outside of RG/DO he still never won any slam matches.

Unfortunately it is true.
El Confidencial (Spanish digital newspaper) sought a position regarding what happened.
They acknowledged not having a specific norm:
"There is no rule about it", it was a decision they made on the fly, that is, they improvised.

"We could not afford to interrupt the flow of the encounter. We considered that it was detrimental for the players to stop the match, slow down the game, wait a few minutes to close the roof and continue with the semi-final.
If the match started at 8:00 p.m. and at 9:30 p.m. there was no light, it placed us in a situation that we could not allow", they assure from the tournament.

The newspaper closes:
At Wimbledon, where details seem to be taken care of to the millimeter, improvisation entered through the biggest door.

Everything about that semi final is just so maddening! It should have been outdoors, in the daytime, in the heat, like every other match in the tournament.

The devilish Joker took Federer off his favorite court (Center Court) in the 2018 Wimbledon quarterfinals and a days later, he said, I prefer that we continue playing indoors despite the conditions they are perfect for playing outdoors.

Yes, to this day Cecchinato has never won a match at the Australian Open, Wimbledon or US Open. It wasn't until the late 2020 French Open tournament that Cecchinato won a match at a major outside of his 2018 French Open semi final run. He's had 10 match wins at the French Open, 5 of them in 2018, 2 in 2020, 2 in 2021 and 1 in 2022. He failed to qualify for the 2023 Australian Open, losing in the first round of the qualifiers.

I loved that match, Cecchinato played out of his mind and in my opinion it was the match which reignited Djokovic's passion for Tennis as he took that loss very personally.

He said "I don't know if I'll play Wimbledon". And I thought he was having a Borg-like mental breakdown, but then he won Wimbledon and started another period of domination
